This was SUPPOSED to be Shrub's STRONGEST Night
And he just plain sucked. John Kerry was more PRESIDENTIAL than Shrub. It's a done deal. John Kerry!!! I knew you would do it!

Never had a doubt! I didn't like Edwards...but Seeing the Sr. Campaign Adviser next to Clark's name is a good compensation :)

1. What's Even Better is That Bush Will Have to Adjust and Compensate
next time to avoid a similar performance. Gore had trouble in his second debate. I even saw John McCain metaphorically castrated after his remarks on Falwell and Robertson during the South Carolina primary.

Bush will either have to ratchet up the attacks (which didn't work last night, and will show him as angry and shrill) or else backpedal and be pleasant, which will enable Kerry to rip him to shreds on domestic policy.

Not an attractive choice for the Bush team.

5. On the money, ribofunk...
Not only will * have to mind all his memorized talking points, but he'll also have a head full of Rovian "Don't do this," and "Don't do that."

His mind will be subdivided, and there's not a lot of space to spare in there.

2. I wrote in another post....
...that Bush supporters and the whoring "pundits" were all saying that the winner was going to be decided based "stylistic" considerations: poise (or lack of), gestures, facial expressions, etc. and now that Bush tanked in this area the pundits are scrambling to discuss the debate based on substance and not style. Which is what they should have been doing from the start.

7. Kerry was absolutely more presidential, more professional, more informed..
while Shrubbie got more flustered and angry as the night went on. He kept going back to the same song and dance over and over. Clearly, after playing softball all this time, he's out of his element in the debate setting. If this had been an actual "debate," Kerry would have made mincemeat out of him.

The next debate is EXACTLY what Kerry wanted all three to be like.

A town forum style meeting where the 6'4 Kerry will tower over the 5'11 Bush since they will be both mobile and more importantly it is on domestic issues where Kerry will slaughter Bush.

Medicare, Social Security, the Economy, the Environment are all strong holds in every poll for Kerry.

This is will be another major nail in the coffin for Smirky.

Bank on it folks: He is all done dancin! :toast:

11. Don't get over confident!
I'm holding my breath through these debates. Last night amazed me until I remembered that Bush is incredibly weak at foreign policy. That was his weak point in 2000. The only things he could keep saying was terror and 9/11 and hard work. Now, on to the next!

12. Foreign policy was supposed to be Bush's strongest subject
That's why the Bush camp negotiated to have it as the subject of the first debate. I their strategy was that Kerry would end up looking so ineffectual on foreign policy that he'd have to spend the next two debates (not to mention the month of October) playing catch-up. But Georgie show he can't function without a script. And did his ears look bigger than usual to you? I wonder if they were covering up an earpiece? He sure kept cocking his head as if he were trying to listen to something!
