Let's extract all of the BUSHISMs!
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 01:42 PM by Stephanie

TRANSCRIPT

To start:

The enemy understands a free Iraq will be a major defeat in their ideology of hatred. That's why they're fighting so vociferously.

Saddam Hussein had no intention of disarming.
(Ummm - what he was supposed to disarm himself of?)

Of course we're after Saddam Hussein -- I mean bin Laden.

68. That's what I thought...
It sounded like he was trying to combine "feverishly," "furiously," and "ferociously." I had to get the transcripts later to figure out what he actually said. Maybe he thought by throwing in one of them college-boy words, the American public wouldn't think he was a total moron. I'm afraid it didn't work.

101. Vociferously?
Um, it means involving making a lot of noise or outcry.
So Shrub is saying that our enemies shout a lot.
Not "fighting savagely" or "desperately" or "violently" but "loudly".

Maybe that's why casualty rates continue to soar.....

79. Not as funny as it is sad
I found the TV screens comment more sad than funny. It just proves that he doesn't fully understand the horrible realities of war. Experiencing it first-hand is nothing like watching it on TV. Honestly, this man had no idea what he was asking our brave men and women to do when he sent them to Iraq. This comment pretty much proves that.

Someone on another thread said that this comment won't sit well with vets. I think that they are right.

The DNC center where I was at was laughing so loud I couldn't make out what it was. He sounded like he was creating a rather long, new word early into the speech. I don't think it will appear in the edited transcripts being posted by the networks. They appear to edit out most of the gaffs.

33. They don't want to confuse him with more than one phrase
-----------------
He doesn't want U.S. leadership, however, to send mixed signals, to not stand with the Iraqi people.
-----------------
And I'm optimistic. See, I think you can be realistic and optimistic at the same time. I'm optimistic we'll achieve -- I know we won't achieve if we send mixed signals. I know we're not going to achieve our objective if we send mixed signals to our troops, our friends, the Iraqi citizens.
-----------------
I think that by speaking clearly and doing what we say and not sending mixed messages, it is less likely we'll ever have to use troops.
-----------------
You cannot lead if you send mixed messages. Mixed messages send the wrong signals to our troops. Mixed messages send the wrong signals to our allies. Mixed messages send the wrong signals to the Iraqi citizens.

22. "Osama bin Laden isn't going to determine how we defend ourselves."
We continue to pursue our policy of disrupting those who proliferate weapons of mass destruction.

And that's how best it is to keep the peace.

This nation of ours has got a solemn duty to defeat this ideology of hate. And that's what they are.

That's why they're fighting so vociferously.

They showed up in Afghanistan when they were there, because they tried to beat us and they didn't.

Of course we're after Saddam Hussein—I mean bin Laden.

I think it's worthy for a follow-up.

What's he say to Tony Blair? What's he say to Alexander Kwasniewski of Poland?

So what's the message going to be: "Please join us in Iraq. We're a grand diversion. Join us for a war that is the wrong war at the wrong place at the wrong time?"

I know how these people think. I deal with them all the time. I sit down with the world leaders frequently and talk to them on the phone frequently.

And there's going to be an Arab summit, of the neighborhood countries.

No, what I said was that, because we achieved such a rapid victory, more of the Saddam loyalists were around. I mean, we thought we'd whip more of them going in.

And now we're fighting them now. And it's hard work. I understand how hard it is. I get the casualty reports every day. I see on the TV screens how hard it is. But it's necessary work.

And I'm optimistic. See, I think you can be realistic and optimistic at the same time. I'm optimistic we'll achieve—I know we won't achieve if we send mixed signals.

It's hard work to go from a place where people get their hands cut off, or executed, to a place where people are free.

My opponent just said something amazing. He said Osama bin Laden uses the invasion of Iraq as an excuse to spread hatred for America. Osama bin Laden isn't going to determine how we defend ourselves. Osama bin Laden doesn't get to decide. The American people decide.

You know, it's hard work to try to love her as best as I can, knowing full well that the decision I made caused her loved one to be in harm's way.

I reject this notion—and I'm suggesting my opponent isn't—I reject the notion that some say that if you're Muslim you can't free, you don't desire freedom. I disagree, strongly disagree with that.

First of all, of course I know Osama bin Laden attacked us. I know that.

My opponent is for joining the International Criminal Court. I just think trying to be popular, kind of, in the global sense, if it's not in our best interest makes no sense. I'm interested in working with our nations and do a lot of it.

Secondly, he said—my opponent said where he worked to put sanctions on Iran—we've already sanctioned Iran. We can't sanction them any more. There are sanctions in place on Iran.

It was not my administration that put the sanctions on Iran. That happened long before I arrived in Washington, D.C.

If you noticed early on, moron wasn't writing down a thing, but Kerry was making notes left and right. I then noticed that moron started writing things. I think he thought to himself, "self, I have to look like I'm doing something here, Kerry is about to finish a book over there".

Also was it just me or did it seem like towards the end of the debate, moron kept looking out to the audience, then he would scribble a little, look again, scribble some more, etc...

56. Hard Work tally = 11
----------------------
In Iraq, no doubt about it, it's tough. It's hard work. It's incredibly hard. You know why? Because an enemy realizes the stakes.
----------------------
I work with Director Mueller of the FBI; comes in my office when I'm in Washington every morning, talking about how to protect us. There's a lot of really good people working hard to do so. It's hard work.
----------------------
...we moved rapidly, and a lot of the Baathists and Saddam loyalists laid down their arms and disappeared. I thought they would stay and fight, but they didn't. And now we're fighting them now. And it's hard work. I understand how hard it is.
----------------------
We've got a plan in place. The plan says there will be elections in January, and there will be. The plan says we'll train Iraqi soldiers so they can do the hard work, and we are.
----------------------
It is hard work. It is hard work to go from a tyranny to a democracy. It's hard work to go from a place where people get their hands cut off, or executed, to a place where people are free.
----------------------
You know, it's hard work to try to love her as best as I can, knowing full well that the decision I made caused her loved one to be in harm's way.
----------------------
There's going to be 125,000 trained by the end of this year. Yes, we're getting the job done. It's hard work. Everybody knows it's hard work, because there's a determined enemy that's trying to defeat us.
----------------------
We've done a lot of hard work together over the last three and a half years. We've been challenged, and we've risen to those challenges. We've climbed the mighty mountain. I see the valley below, and it's a valley of peace.
----------------------

And that is, I wouldn't join the International Criminal Court. It's a body based in The Hague where unaccountable judges and prosecutors can pull our troops or diplomats up for trial.

Mr. Lehrer Thirty seconds, Mr. President.

Mr. Bush You know my opinion on North Korea. I can't say it any more plainly.

Mr. Lehrer Right, well, what - he used the word truth again.

Mr. Bush Pardon me?

Mr. Lehrer Talking about the truth of the matter. Used the word truth again. Did that raise any hackles with you?

Mr. Bush I'm a pretty calm guy. I mean, I don't take it personally. But, you know, look, we looked at the same intelligence. And came to the same conclusion. That Saddam Hussein was a grave threat. And I don't hold it against him that he said grave threat. I don't, I'm not going to go around the country saying he didn't tell the truth when he looked at the same intelligence I did.

I am absolutely convinced that Bush* wasn't listening to Kerry's answer and did not understand what Lehrer was asking him. It was painful to watch. I'm surprised no one else mentioned this.

DISASTER FOR BUSH:  America Clearly Sees At Last That The Emperor Is Naked

Rambling, Incoherent... and It Was Bush Wiping The Sweat Away (and Drinking Heavily)

by Betsy R. Vasquez

OCTOBER 1, 2004 – How bad was it for Bush?

So bad that FOX News' website didn't even run any poll.  So bad that all Matt Drudge could try and boast about on his website was that some Democrat called it a draw.  So bad that even Bush's people could only try to say, Yeah, he lost, but so what.

Other media outlets have been telling you this election would be close and that the debates might be even as well.

We hate to say it (not that much) but we told them so.

Bush got shellacked so badly it was astounding.  He was like a wounded animal desperate for a place to hide but not able to find one.

CONTINUED...

You're absolutely correct, Stephanie! Thank you John Kerry!

Gee. The guy never wilts. Especially when it comes to his -- and our -- country.

102. I apologize if somebody's already posted this--I'm new
but I didn't see it anywhere else--I didn't catch his precise phrase when he *said* it, but it's plain as day in the transcript: Lehrer asks the two to address one another's character problems (suuuuuuuure Jim), and they make kissy-face comments, and Kerry says of the Bush girls "I‘ve chuckled a few times at some of their comments." And Shrub's face contorted weirdly and he kind of snorted and interjected, "I‘m trying to put a leash on them."

Ooooooookaaay....would you be wearing desert BDU's and combat boots while you do that, Sir??????

Was that a truly unfortunate reference or what??

Whew! Gotta get my imagination around that!

Gonna copy your comment above and forward to others.
