On the radio, they had some on the street interviews with people (sounded like older women) who said the debate made them defiantly choose Kerry. This was local news. Not more than two minutes later, on talk radio, a bushbot talking head was saying that people are too entrenched, no way will this debate change votes. spin spin spin.

2. That's the spin going on at CNN |

"We'll have to wait until after the last debate to see if it will have any effect on the polls."
Bull! This was supposed to be Bush's strongest debate and he did nothing but parrot lines from his attack ads.

3. This debate addressed the top concern of voters |
|
which is, "Who can keep our country safe?" The Bushies figured it was a slam dunk, so they insisted that the debate be moved from the last debate (its usual position) to the first. They figured everything after that would be a cakewalk, and that they could even cancel the other two debates for some "irregularity" in the first one.
It's a lot easier to call someone names behind his back than in front of his face. Bush* would have learned that lesson in prep school if he hadn't been such a pampered brat.

Who do you think won the first U.S. presidential debate?
President George W. Bush 22% 151047 votes
Sen. John Kerry 71% 496649 votes
Evenly matched 8% 54158 votes

So out of the White House comes "it's one thing to win a debate, it's another thing to convince people you can be President" via Suzanne Malveaux. I guess that's very interesting logic coming out from the administration, but we're accustomed to that by now.

ABC wire, I am not shitting you,
Bush performed so poorly because he was tired after visiting hurricane victims.

7. Well it is the best spin they can put on it... |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-01-04 03:11 PM by Tamyrlin79
If Bush won, then: "People were swayed by the president's arguments and he gained a lot of support last night"
If Kerry won, then: "No one's mind was changed last night. Kerry kept his own, but swayed no one."
In the first spin, you try to maximize gains from winning. In the second, you try to minimize losses from losing. The truth, though, is that what is true for Bush if he won, is also true for Kerry when he wins. He swayed people, strengthened his support. That much is abundantly clear. It sure as hell didn't hurt him, and it sure as hell didn't help Bush.
They wanted to knock Kerry out of the race last night with their big Terrorism/Nat'l Security Debate, but it may be Bush who, if he isn't knocked out, is now barely hanging on.
Oh the irony that results from one's hypocrisy...

10. How about the "mistake about the war comment".... |
|
The only possible thing they could try to weave into some psychotic crap is Kerry's rejoinder about how he may have made a slip up on the way he talked about his position on the war, but at least that's not as bad as Bush's otherwise reckless handling of the war.
I would expect Limbaugh to bring forth a cancerous biopsy of that beauty mark.
