7. It's unspinnable: on all visceral showmanship points, he got whupped

Yeah, it's an old saw for me, but I REALLY contend that it's true: people are facile and yet strangely perceptive. Kerry came off as what he is: a bit stiff, but level-headed, honest, sincere and tough as nails. Bush revealed his true nature: mean, petty, vindictive, simple-minded and arrogant as all hell.

"I know how the world works" is basically a "fuck you" to the rest of the universe of peons.

Irrespective of anything, the visual was obvious: Bush was angry, pushy and snide. The visual ALWAYS trumps the verbal, and if things are relatively close, it's the only topic of conversation. What are the endlessly repeated moments from previous debates? Gore's sighing, Poppy looking at his watch and Nixon's shifty eyes are the major ones, and they're all non-verbal. (Yes, Reagan's quip "there you go again" and "youth and inexperience" get mention, as do Bentsen's "you're no Jack Kennedy", but MUCH more time's spent on the non-verbal, and that's because it's more important.

Can't spin it: the guy's a creep...

Oh, and Kerry's got a MUCH longer microphone...heh-heh, heh-heh...
