2. I fear some kind of monumental new smear against Kerry

Something outrageous that will dominate discussion and put Kerry back on the defensive. Don't know what it will be (maybe Rove doesn't know yet, either). If I were Kerry, I'd try to smear Bush first. Get Bush responding to charges for a change.

I mean, what if there's an october surprise and Kerry is able to clean his clock about it in front of 60+ million people!!! THAT'S Rove's worst case scenario: a backfiring october surprise. He'll save it for post Oct. 15th.
