France is literally our oldest ally and Virginia is a battle ground state. Their fleet and army was pivotal at Yorktown. Ask Ben Franklin. Maybe they are pompus goofballs but they were among the deaths in Beirut when our Marines got blown up, they are with us in Afghanistan and they rescued Americans in harms way in Africa as recently as months ago. The immature way the Bush administration treats our oldest ally sends a terrible message to potential new allies. You know you're in crazyworld (Bushworld) when France, Canada and Mexico are our enemies and a King in Saudi Arabia, a dictator in Pakistan and the Likud party are America's best friends.

And don't forget about General Casimir Polaski

"The new recruit organized a cavalry unit composed of American, Polish, Irish, German, and French troops. In February of 1779, he received orders to proceed to South Carolina to reinforce the southern American forces under British attack. On May 8, the Legion arrived in Charleston where it greatly contributed to the successful defense of the town against a much larger British force. On October, 1779, the newly formed unit engaged the British in the Siege of Savannah where on October 9, Pulaski was very badly wounded. He was carried away by his soldiers and placed on a ship named The Wasp to get medical help. But he died two days later on October 11, 1779, and his body was buried at sea."

And don't forget about the bravery of Polish troops in the Battle of Casino Royale in the WW2 Italian campaign.

1. The French battalion in Korea won 3 US Presidential Unit Citations
for bravery and fought alongside US troops against the Chinese as part of the UN force.

The French Battalion took part in some of the bloodiest battles of the Korean War including Twin Tunnels and Heartbreak Ridge and saved a US division by making a stand and fighting the Chinese hand-to-hand, according to one eyewitness account of a US soldier:

"....Retreating, the Chinese reorganized and hit the French who were defending Hill 453. Lt. Col. Ralph Monclar, a decorated and much-wounded veteran of both world wars, inspired his men. Freeman later recalled: "Wave after wave of fanatical Chinese continued to surge on during the next three hours in an attempt to seize the dominating ground. The gallant French 1st Company was finally engaged in hand-to-hand fighting and suffered heavy casualties. With their position becoming almost untenable, the desperate French counter-attacked with the bayonet...."

"...The Chinese, with victory almost in their grasp-a victory which had they attained would have jeopardized our entire position-pulled back......"
