Who has established contacts with veterans organizations?
I'd love to hear their reaction to Bush's claim that he knows how hard Iraq is because he watches TV.

How do you suppose it will effect the veteran vote if we really get it planted in their head that the Comander in Chief's attitude towards them is basically "Hey, I know what you guys have been through... I might have avoided ever serving combat duty but I watched the news a couple times."

1. Ooh--nice. I can use that.
Can you get me the exact quote? I'll forward it to a couple of Vets for Kerry lists where it will be put to good use.

2. Taken straight from the debate transcript.

"And it's hard work. I understand how hard it is. I get the casualty reports every day. I see on the TV screens how hard it is."

So basically... because he gets reports of soldiers killed and watches Fox news he knows how hard Iraq is. That said... I know what it was like for soldiers in WWII.

I may not have ever been in combat... but I watched Saving Private Ryan once.

4. What's your take specifically...
...on anyone who would say they know how hard combat is from reading reports and watching TV? ANYONE... not just Bush?

Do you know a single combat veteran who wouldn't sneer in didsdain at the very suggestion?

(Best way to find out: ask every single veteran you know what they think about Bush's comment... and ask them to ask others.) ;)

6. Much appreciated, everyone.
I knew the quote would be somewhere in the transcript, but was trying to get some other things done & didn't have time to get involved in trying to find it. You've made it easy for me, and I'll be sending it out on 2 vet email lists this morning.
