WASHINGTON, Oct 2. President Bush denied giving more than a passing thought to not showing up for the second debate, which will center on domestic politics. "Kerry got lucky last night," said the nation's chief executive. "He was getting his fingernails buffed while I was doing presidential things like posing for photographs. It's hard work, something my opponent has never done in his entire life."

White House Communications Director Dan Bartlett denied accusations that Bush's remarks were intended to stir up working class resentment against the wealthy Sen. Kerry. "We're taking the high road here," opined Bartlett. "Kerry's horse-faced and French-looking, and he lets his wife say anything she feels like."
