A debate review.
(I just posted this to my little corner of blogspace)

A Complete Mismatch: Bush was exposed

I've seen some sound beatings in my day. Hell, I've been on the receiving end of most of them. What America watched during the first Presidential debate on Thursday was a rout of epic proportions. Not just a victory, a crushing victory on the opponents presumed home field.

It was Michael Jordan vs Woody Allen in a Slam Dunk contest...
Or a battle of the bands featuring the Rolling Stones against Loverboy...
It really was the political equivalent of the '27 Yankees taking on the '63 Mets (or even more appropriately, the Bad News Bears)

I imagine it was quite shocking for the few remaining undecided voters that Bush could not even meet the carefully manufactured low expectations that the Rove media laid out for him. Kerry was able to get under Bush's skin almost the instant the debate began. From there it was nothing but arrogance, irritation, insolence and excuses from the President. Bush looked like a man who had been dragged out of a cave after weeks and weeks of solitary self-aggrandizement. He utterly melted under the intense sunlight of Kerry's criticism.

By contrast they saw John Kerry rise above that same media's lofty predictions for him and in just 90 minutes he completely shattered the image that the Bush crew has spent months and millions of dollars trying to craft. Rove and company have plenty of money and dirty tricks to spare, but I'm not sure any of it is going to stick to the commanding and presidential Kerry that America saw on Thursday.

The Republicans sent a mewling, neutered mutt to face an oratorical bulldog in Kerry and they paid a high price in this Presidential campaign. It was a price paid in prestige and image, and the president had precious little of those to spare.

The Boy-King was exposed in that debate and not even his jesters in the media can make him smile again.
