did anyone catch bush saying this at the end last night? |
|
I see about 15 statements last night saying how strong and resolute he is and how any policy change will "send mixed signals" and "embolden the enemy". And then he drops this...
"WELL, I THINK - LISTEN I FULLY AGREE THAT, UH, THAT ONE SHOULD SHIFT TACTICS AND WE WILL." In response to Kerry's observation that "certainty sometimes can get you in trouble."
OH...MY...GAWD... he spent ALL NIGHT stammering out why it was so important to stick with him and stay the course, and then he just comes out and says they're gonna start doing things differently, at some unknown point in the future??? Is there any other way to take this statement, other than he knows they're doing it wrong, and maybe some day somebody will figure out how to stop doing it? All of a sudden, he doesn't seem quite so certain of himself. Vote for a new approach in Iraq! Vote for Bush!
"The best way to defeat them is to never waver, to be strong"
"if we remain strong and resolute we will defeat this enemy."
"We will succeed. We've got a plan to do so."
"(Allawi) doesn't want U.S. leadership, however, to send mixed signals"
"the way to win this is to be steadfast and resolved and to follow through on the plan that I just outlined."
"They're not going to follow somebody who's core convictions keep changing because of politics in America."
"I know we won't achieve if we send mixed signals."
"I know we're not going to achieve our objective if we send mixed signals to our troops, our friends, the Iraqi citizens."
"I think what is misleading is to say you can lead and succeed in Iraq if you keep changing your positions on this war, and he has. As the politics change, his positions change"
"The only consistent about my opponent's position is that he's been inconsistent. He changes positions. And you cannot change positions in this war on terror if you expect to win."
"I think that by speaking clearly and doing what we say and not sending mixed messages, it is less likely we'll ever to use troops"
"I think by acting firmly and decisively it'll - it's less likely use - it's less likely we have to use force."
"he changes positions on the war in Iraq."
"You cannot lead if you send mixed messages. Mixed messages send the wrong signals to our troops. Mixed messages send the wrong signal to our allies. Mixed messages send the wrong messages to the Iraqi citizens."

I caught this, too! I leaned over to my friend and pointed out that Bush had just admitted, in a nationally-televised debate, that his policy in Iraq wasn't working and that he needed to try something new.
Too bad it got buried in the spin...

3. I think he said it twice. |
|
Remaining resolute and shifting tactics at the same time?
Why, I do believe he is sending mixed messages.
