The Richmond Va. DMV is PACKED with people registering to vote
My wife just got back (had to change name on voter card) and she said that the place was packed with people registering to vote. you don't have to wait in line you just do it at the front desk.

She said that it was all African-Americans* which is outstanding.

BTW- Of the fliers I put up in several laundromats last week about 18 of the voter registration forms have been ripped off from the sign.

*-please don't jump all over me for that. African-Americans very much tend to vote Dem, that is what I meant.

1. Woohoo!
I'm in Richmond, too and this is EXCELLENT news!!!!

I really feel the tide is turning in this area. Haven't been up to NoVa in awhile but they always tend to lean more left.

While there still aren't that many Kerry signs/bumperstickers...I think it is great news that there are so few Bush ones as opposed to 2000. They may not be voting for Kerry, but that doesn't mean that they'l be voting Bush.

7. Seems Dems are becoming less fearful of stepping up
A lot of people watched that debate.
Suddenly, hope is in the air.

10. Welcome to DU
One of the main things Dean did (I was never a "Deanie" though) was he was the first person we saw stand up on a national level and start calling W on his BS.

Suddenly it was okay to air your grievances.

2. better check the status of your voting machines
Is Va electronic? Where are the votes consolidated? Who counts them and how?

check the map on this thread:

6. Depends on the area, I think
Personally when I vote, it is the sheet of paper and you use the black pen to fill in the oval. Then you slide it through a machine.

Don't know how reliable this is, but at least it leaves a paper trail.

8. That is defintely the best method
most accurate and with the number of schools and scanning machine available in most areas THAT is the method that should be adapted nationally.

We still use the old -pull the handle to close the curtain machines here.

3. Not a problem. I think we understand that perfectly
Just recently when one of the volunteers was attending a predominantly black function in town, she wanted to give fliers, bumper stickers, etc. to some African-Americans. One turned to her and said, "We don't that. I'm black. You don't think I'd be fool enough to vote for Bush!"

4. excellent -- BUT
remember folks, that registering doesn't equate to VOTING on election day.

we've all go to do what we can to make sure those who register actually VOTE on election day.

these folks are some of the LEAST likely to do it. so we've got to push them.

5. And they say the debates will not change anything......HAH!
I'm glad to hear people are waking up. Just my opinion, but I think it is important to know of stories like the one you shared. It reinforces and negates the constant barrage and isidiousness of the media agenda.

9. There was a time...
.... when the debates were almost inconsequential.

I think the reason that has changed is that it is one of the very few times we get to see the candidates for a long time, unedited, unspun, in real life as much as TV can be real life.

I think Americans were surprised that Kerry is not the nutty intellectual flip-flipper they have been told he is.

I think they were also surprised that Bush* folds and wilts like a paper napkin when faced with real questions about his decisions.

What a win-win for Dems!

12. exactly. the debate to me was proof positive that if kerry is given
just 1/20th the time that bush gets to explain his rovian excuses, kerry would be 30 points ahead in the polls. if the media was actually semi balanced, bush would be impeached already.

16. "Why hasn't Kerry been able to get his message out?"
If I hear that one more time........:grr::nuke:

Of course this usually follows the "How can Kerry shed the 'flip-flopper' label the Republicans have pinned on him".

Gee I wonder how that could have happened.

13. Living in the Republic of Richmond I see them all around
I really get the sense that people are ashamed of putting up W signs, you see VERY few around here but then this is in the city.
Rt.5 and S.Laburnum huh? Good!

15. Hope the DMV turns them in!

I have registered at least twenty voters because they registered before at the DMV in California!

NONE of them had ever received a word or piece of paper telling them about their polling place.

Please someone explain to everyone that they must make sure they get their materials in time to vote!!

It is real scary with the DMV in California. I think it is run by Rethugs. :(

18. They better make sure they do it right
I read this morning on the MSGOP crawler where 1000's of voters in Fla. :wow: :eyes:  won't be able to vote because their voter registration forms were not filled out completely. And I am betting most are not aware of it. No wonder bush* the thief made the comment yesterday that he knew he would "win" Fla again. The cheating bastard plans on stealing the election again! :argh:

20. Right!

When ever you register, have someone check the form behind you before the person leaves.

So important!!

22. I worked a voter registration drive last week in Pentagon City
We got 15 new voters in 2 hours. Similar blitzes were planned for every Metro and a bunch of key apartment buildings this weekend. I was surprised by how many Virginians gave us the big thumbs up! Even had a Colonel offer to volunteer. VA is very much in play!
