All that hard work that * referred to in the debate a million times - I couldn't help but notice that it was mainly the hard work of OTHERS that was being referred to. Except for the "hard work of loving" that Iraqi soldier widow. He obviously is trying to combat an impression (which is a reality) that he is not a hard worker (duh- wonder what makes us think he's not a hard worker?).

But he referred to the hard work of rebuilding Iraq, the hard work of getting the economy on its feet, etc. All of that "hard work" is being done by people other than Bush (of course, they are merely trying to do it; the hard work is not paying off, but that's a different issue).

1. Implicit in it, too...
... is the suggestion that they're not yet through with the job. "Working at" something implies a job not yet done, and I expect that to be a sub-theme from now to the election. "Please, don't throw us out yet--we aren't done!" Of course, done with quite what, they won't be explicit about....

2. I was thinking the same thing when he kept repeating
his 'poor me- hard work- its ma'job' routine.

3. The sound bite might have worked...

Had he used the "hard work" lie once or twice, he might have pulled it off without sounding whiney. But he did overdo it. Whenever Bush blanked during the debates, it appeared to be the only one of his talking points he could think of. It is easy to recall and fits in contextually almost anywhere.

It's hard work trying to remember all the talking points I was supposed to memorize.

It's hard work keeping teens on a leash.

It's hard work trying to hide a blemished service record.

It's hard work trying to justify my administration without resorting to canned sound bites.

5. He's a whining effeminate inbred blueblood, like his poppy, but
due to organic brain damage, he's functionally illiterate and unable to conceptualize above a 4 year old level.

He's a perfect puppet for the neo-cons
