Is this how they act when they are under fire?
The answer is yes.

When Kerry was under fire form Bush's barbs, he smiled & took notes-as if he was welcoming each of Bush's challenges.

Bush, as we all know, responded to Kerry's assaults by hunching, grimacing, pausing, making strange breathing noises.

Talking point: "Is this what they act like when they are under fire?"

Yep.

5. Answer to your question:
"Talking point: 'Is this what they act like when they are under fire?'"

Yes. And it's not a good look for him! I can think of others as well: When Andy Card told him about the second WTC; when David Gregory asked Chirac a question in French - he was pissed, left out and tried to look like he thought speaking French in France was silly; the "shame on me" debacle - he was struggling mightily to make sense and not look like a complete fuckup; when John McCain told him he ought to be ashamed during the GOP debate in 2000.
I'm sure we could come up with hundreds of looks that are most unpresidential, but that should be part of the talking point- "Your guy sure didn't look presidential the other night when challenged on his decisions and policies..."

6. Yes the note taking was very effective....
When I saw him doing it I noticed he had a little smile on his face. I thought, ah hell... monkey boy is going to get it now.....

He did it twice and it was very effective....
