Has Carl Cameron been removed from the Kerry campaign yet?
Either by FOX or by the campaign?

I personally don't want to let this go by the wayside.

1. Neither do I
Let's blast Faux with letters and a petition, just like the repukes did to CBS. What Dan Rather did was NOTHING compared to this.

Edited on Sun Oct-03-04 12:42 AM by Carla in Ca
to apologize to Kerry. Now, after Faux has again done another spoof-as-real story, I'm emailing them!

on edit: Here is another gem...they just don't quit

2. Cameron is involved in the BUSH campaign, NOT the Kerry campaign
His wife, a friend of Doro Bush Koch, is active in the BUSH campaign.

12. Yes, but he is out on the trail, covering the Kerry campaign.
I'd like to see them revoke his press credentials.

3. Has that AP story gotten picked up by any other papers or news
channels? I haven't seen it anywhere else.

The story needs to get out all over the place.

Fox bitten by reporter's
joke quotes

Move over Dan Rather, Fox News' Carl Cameron is joining you in the hoaxer hall of shame.
Fox News' Web site posted a story written by its top political reporter yesterday with madeup quotes that painted Democratic presidential contender John Kerry as a spa-going girly-man.

yes, it's being picked up but the media outlets are NOT pointing out that Cameron's wife is employed by B/C.

9. Berkeley students well aware of media spin
BERKELY-

<snip>

Jerry Lubenow, program director of the Center on Politics, which hosted the screening, asked for a show of hands to indicate which candidate had won the debate. Kerry was the universally acknowledged victor; Bush received no hands. However, in response to Lubenow's follow-up question "How many of you think the media will call the debate for Kerry?" only about a third raised their hands. A subsequent third thought the media would declare Bush the winner, while another third thought the debate would be declared a draw.

<snip>

Several emphasized that what mattered was the reaction of voters in the swing states, and how partisan media, particularly Fox News, would spin the debate the next day.

Any Berkeleyers on DU? I'm applying there. How is it?

15. If I were the Kerry Campaign
(I'd be lots of people. Sorry.)

But seriously, the Kerry campaign should insist that Fox reassign Carl Cameron. Quietly at first and then go public. How can they expect fair treatment from a "reporter" who has demonstrated a willingness to make shit up and then "accidentally" go public with it?

Kerry's got to show some real balls here and make a public issue out of this if Fox doesn't, for once in its squalid existence, do the right thing.

16. They've already said..
they "reprimanded" Cameron and they think that should be the end of the controversy, according to JMM. www.talkingpointsmemo.com

17. His credibility is nil now.
He's either going to be scrupulously fair for most of the remainder, or what he says will be discounted because of his "slip up." If it were up to me, I'd want him to stay on board. He's certainly unlikely to be any worse than a replacement Fox sent.

19. True, but bad publicity for Faux News is good publicity for us
The more we make them look like the RW Smear Machine that they are, the less people will trust them.

It's not just about whether Carl Cameron will continue with his biased reporting; it's about the controversy that can and should be created surrounding the event, and how that will help the Kerry campaign. That may seem like dirty politics, but you've got to fight fire with fire.

The presentation of Cameron's foul "satire" as legitimate news is exponentially worse than the CBS/memo scandal, but I'd be awed and speechless if it got 1/10th of the press.

21. Keep Your Loved Ones Close, Your Enemies Closer...
Accidental report, my tailbone...Cameron's been pulling stunts for a long time, but he's a known comodity and is doing Zero harm to Kerry since if there are any Kerry supporters on Faux, it's only because they're paid to be. At least when he's in sight, he can't be out filing stories about Swift Boat assholes or alleged girlfriends or bad land deals.

Except to its hive of watchers, Faux has been discredited and is viewed by almost all as a partisan, right wing network. Hell, these assholes wanted one for years, now they have it. Just don't feed me the horseshit it's objective and balanced. That game is long over. They just preach to their choir now.

The one aspect that should be played up is the comparison with Rather. While Dan's "error" was in attempting to fact check on a story, Cameron's lies and attempts at smearing were blatant and pre-meditated.
