Wusses. Don't they think what the Commander in Chief has to say to the American people is important?

12. Correct, no big deal, this is identical to 2000
FOX News will show the debate while FOX shows baseball playoffs. They have a contract to do so.

In 2000, same thing happened. Plus I remember NBC had a baseball conflict during debate number one in 2000. It gave the affiliates the option of showing the debate or the playoff game.

Fox News Channel has to put on the debates. Where else will the "Righteous" tune in ?

8. The Dittoheads in my family would only watch the hurricane stories on FOX!
They believe ONLY Fox has "fair and balanced" weather! :nuke:

They also prayed that God would spare Rush Limbaugh's Palm Beach seaside mansion.

THIS IS THE TRUTH, not making this up!

Thank goodness, the Supreme Court made their decision when they did or I would have been sitting alone at home at Christmas, too. My family believes that PNAC documents and the PNAC website is fake, nothing more than a Democrat ruse.

5. Actually, I think this is a good thing.
At least it one less group of predetermined conclusions that won't be aired. The folks that are interested in watching will view the debates from some other chanel, and those that aren't interested, have probably madeup their mind anyway.

14. Fox Network (Simpsons) vs. Faux Noise (Assholes)
While I avoid the Network (but my kids would disown me if I said a bad word about the Simpsons or That 70s Show) I'm not surprised. While Murdoch is an asshole, he's also a major capitalist and spent billions in getting the MLB contract and stands to make millions with these playoff games (especially with NY & LA in them). NBC would do the same.

If there was a team I was avidly interested in, I'd be watching the playoffs rather than the debates, too and be pissed if they interupted the game for the debate.

BTW...there are a bunch of Faux's out there. There's FX that reruns M*A*S*H and X-Files...Fox Movie Channel that shows movies from when Fox wasn't Murdoch and a million Fox Sports Channels (I get at least 5 on my cable system) that carry local and regional sports.

From my observing, only Faux News appears to wear the Murdoch "slash & burn" tabloid partisan tag...the others pretty much stay clear of anything showing a political bias. The only show I know of that Faux airs on the Fox network is the Chris Wallace Sunday Show...other than that it appears each local station tends to be apolitical.

20. If there were a team you were interested in, would you
watch the rerun of the dates later? Would you tape the debates? Or would you not watch them at all? Just curious. I am not a sports fan but I can imagine certain situations where I might tape the Debate and watch later. My husband had to work this last time so we taped it, but he ended up watching it on a rerun anyway!

21. No, there are posters
who would rather be able to *choose.* The debate is going to be on a gazillion channels, and there are still some of us who are baseball fans who will want to be able to, at the very least, check in to see how the game is going. Stop being so self-righteous.

I said I was astounded. And I am. But if you read my other post you will understand that I am simply curious as to whether they will watch the debate at all as the Debates seem to be of great importance to most posters at DU. Watch whatever you want. I don't care. But I can say I am surprised at someones choice. You can be surprised at my surprise if you like!

25. Fair enough
I'm a huge baseball fan, and most likely, I'll be watching the debate the whole time and keeping tabs on the games over the internet... My only point is that it's possible to still be interested in something else (the baseball playoffs) while still understanding that the debates are of the utmost importance--there is no mutual exclusivity.

Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 04:14 PM by zidzi
night of the 1st "debate"..and call me a party pooper but I think the "debates"(read future of our Country) are much More Important than any stinking baseball game!

We should come together as a Country to give our time and energy to pay attention leading up to our election on Nov 2,2004..in fact we should have a National Holiday for our Presidential Election as Australia does.

EDIT~ to say that I think the baseball games should be scheduled on other nights so as NOT to conflict with the debates!

but the playoffs start next week. there was no playoff game during the debate.

so do you think that movie theaters should shut down during the debates? how about all the other tv channels? give me a fucking break--what you're advocating is tantamount to government-controlled media. that's exactly the kind of thing putin would do.
