How I GOTV in low income neighborhoods
I use the TWO-FACED graphic we were asked by DU Admin to market.

This graphic really resonates in low income neighborhoods. And posting bills in low income areas is almost risk free. It is not something people complain about, there is lots of foot traffic because low income people often do not have cars and unemployed people have a lot of time to trash talk and spread rumors.

To be successful we must close the deal with all the newly registered low income likely democratic voters. We must fire up what I like to call haters. We want that 18-24 year old low income demo to hate * like we do. We do not need to explain why. TWO-FACED says it all.

As I was glueing it to a bus stop shelter last night two people in a car stopped at the light honked and started cheering. All you ahve to do is show it to low income people and say "you know he is"

People want to talk to you when they see the graphic. I find George Bush is a punk ass bitch goes over very well.

I am begging people to try TWO-FACED. I swear it works.

Go to http://somnamblst.tripod.com to download high resolution TIF or PDF files to print and distribute everywhere. Utility poles, bus stops, bulletin boards, newspaper racks, car windshields, phone booths, etc. Guerilla marketers needed to create MAXIMUM BUZZ!

1. count me out
I don't like the way this post was phrased or even the thought behind it. I wont look upon people in this situation as some kind of marketing tool to get votes. I smells of something the rightwing nitwits would phrase and apply.

Sorry, maybe it's just me.

4. If I did not think another Bush presidency would be an absolute
disaster for low income people then I might feel like a cad just using people.

Now using church directories, mailing absentee ballots to former swing state residents urging them to vote their former residence, or accusing democrats of plans to ban the bible, now that is despicable.

11. I took a week's vacation to do nothing but walk the street corners
in several low income neighborhoods, street canvassing for John Kerry. I street canvass everyday on my lunchbreak downtown in SW OHIO. Some people would say what I do involves some personal risk as I am walking around alone in the very neighborhoods in SW Ohio that have homicide rates that break each previous year's record.

If someone else has figured out a better way to reach people in this demographic I would like to hear it.

2. You still need to give people a reason to vote FOR Kerry.
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 03:26 PM by AP
Hating Bush in low income neighborhoods is less than 1/10th the job Democrats need to do. You have to go the other 9 yards and tell them what they should be voting FOR, after you tell them what they're voting against.

5. They do like Kerry
It's mainly the 18-24 year olds we're trying to motivate. Sharpton did give a pretty accurate description of how African Americans feel about the democratic party.

I talk to whoever will listen as I hang the flyers. I go into barber shops, talk to people waiting for the bus. They are glad I am doing this and are amazed that I do it on my own time.
