Kerry: "We're going to go to the Moon right here on Earth"
Try and tell me John Kerry does not have vision out the wazoo.

"We're going to go to the Moon right here on Earth," he says, outlining his 10-year plan to liberate the country from its reliance on fossil fuels and create 500,000 jobs in the process: "Because never should young Americans in uniform be held hostage to America's dependence on oil from the Mideast."

15. Great line
but once again,he's letting Bush set the parameters.

It would be nice if at least every ONCE in a while, Kerry would be on the offensive and give us something NEW!

20. Wrong again, as usual. Kerry said this over a year ago.
Close to two years ago, in fact, and says it at almost all his stumps.

Gee...I guess you never REALLY listened to other candidates before you decided to run with yours.

That's a smart move for a voter, heh?

7. Which Dean did Harkin endorse?
not the so called 'straight talker/Harry Truman' Dean- because that Dean is a myth:

“Iowans will not stand idly by and let you distort the record of a man who has stood up time and again for family farmers. We know John Kerry’s record and he has vigorously worked to give family farms a fair shot to compete against large corporations, to remain economically viable and to help them recover for natural disasters and other crises,” Senator Kibbie and Schaben wrote in the letter. “The people of Iowa should be told the truth and you should correct the record. Before we caucus next month, we hope you change the tenor of your campaign. Iowans deserve straight talk, not mud-slinging.”

13. Jeez, this is what Kerry should have been doing from the start
He got too caught up in the anti-Dean obsession within the DNC. The truth is that Kerry has EXCELLENT policy proposals. He should have ignored the attacks and ran a campaign based on issues. I'm willing to bet you that he'd be doing a lot better right now.

Anyway, that's my opinion.

It may be too late for him now. He's in third place in New Hampshire. I just don't see how he survives losing there.

let the people hear him.

Don't you realize that BushInc. needs Kerry off the national stage before the BCCI trial starting Jan.13 in England makes news in this country? BCCi links directly to 9-11 and Americans will be better able to better understand the issues involved in it now because of 9-11.

Why the heck do you think Gary Hart, Rand Beers and Joe Wilson were on Kerry's team? They have EVERY base covered...COMPETENTLY.

Too many dance to the media's tune.

17. This is good stuff.
And while the stinky behavior of a bunch of posters on an internet BB would make you think otherwise, i want to remind you most folks in the Dean campaign admire and respect John Kerry for his leadership on past issues and his wisdom dealing with the present.

For these reasons Kerry is the clear #2 choice of a majority of Dean supporters.

I have no argument with anything he says, except when he attacks Dean, but write that off to politics.

I look forward to Kerry's articulate vision being a part of Howard Dean's administration in 2005.

<<He promises a "0-to-8" program of health care and education for young children, "because it's time in America that instead of spending $50,000 a year to lock young people up for the rest of their lives, that we spend $10,000 a year for Early Start, Smart Start, Head Start, early childhood education," he says. "We're going to hold George Bush accountable for making a mockery of the words `leave no child behind.' ">>

28. yeah....what's to mock?
Kerry has been saying this for over a year and noone has mocked him yet.

Except you and a few other Dean supporters. But, then, real policy and vision isn't something to be attracted to in the Dean campaign.

Self-glorification,vitriol and backtracking are the attractive features there.

23. Iowa City endorsement picked up on the "Apollo project" for energy
"...Kerry would encourage job creation through a new manufacturing jobs credit, by investing in new technology and by seeking energy independence in a "race" for alternate and renewable fuels. The latter project, which Kerry compares to the Apollo program, offers the dual potential of finally ending America's dependence on OPEC's mercy while helping the fundamental elements of our economy grow."

25. related subject- NYTimes letters today on Bush space initiatives:
The Final Frontier, and Earthly Needs (3 Letters)

Published: January 10, 2004

To the Editor:

Re "Bush Will Offer Major Initiative to Explore Space" (front page, Jan. 9):

Why does the president want to establish a base on the moon as a prelude to sending humans to Mars when we are destroying our own base of life on earth?

I don't know where he expects to get the money for his initiative, given his insistence on huge federal tax cuts and deficits, but if Congress approves a big-ticket technology program, the top priority should be a crash effort to achieve energy independence. And by that I don't mean drilling for a few more barrels of oil in the Alaska wilderness.

America's scientific and engineering talent should be redirected toward the mass deployment of alternative energies like wind and solar power. Ending our dependence on fossil fuels will keep us from financing terrorism in the Middle East and help us slow down climate change.

We have a leader who doesn't comprehend the most serious challenge we face. Exploring other planets is an exciting idea, but it is a wasteful luxury when our own planet is in danger.

CHARLES ALEXANDER
Brooklyn, Jan. 9, 2004

Following on the heels of your report about scientific findings of the potential relationship between global warming and the extinction of countless species within the next 50 years (news article, Jan. 8), we read about the president's proposed new initiative to send humans to Mars (front page, Jan. 9). The need for a major research and development effort to address the devastating impact of climate change surely must take precedence over adventures in outer space.
