who didn't depose opposition witnesses. That means he didn't get their testimony ahead of time, so he had to do his examinations by the seat of his pants.

I worked as a litigation paralegal for years, and I never saw a lawyer who didn't do depositions of the witnesses, the experts, the trees in the park, the guy who sells the coffee in the lobby, and anyone else he/she could get their hands on.

That Edwards became a highly successful trial lawyer using this high-wire technique means he is very, very good at thinking on his feet.

He also avoided depositions because he didn't want to tip his hand to opposing counsel. Go ahead. Underestimate him. ;)
