Kerry Gains Lead in Newsweek Poll Following Debate
Oct. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry took the lead over U.S. President George W. Bush following this week's debate, a Newsweek magazine poll showed.

Kerry, a four-term senator from Massachusetts and vice presidential candidate Senator John Edwards of North Carolina led Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney 49 percent to 46 percent in the poll of 1,013 registered voters conducted the past two days.

Bush led by as much as 8 percentage points going into the debate, according to four national polls. Iraq dominated the forum between Bush and Kerry, who called Bush's decision to invade the country a ``colossal'' mistake because the president didn't have enough global support for the war. Bush countered that Kerry is sending ``mixed signals'' to the troops and enemies by criticizing the use of force after he voted to authorize the attack.

``There are a lot of polls out right now, but given that there are only 30 days to go to the election, we prefer our candidate's record and message'' to Kerry's, said Reed Dickens, a spokesman for the Bush campaign.

13. Mass media is doing its best...
and its best is crap. Here's why:

No bounce from the Dem Convention - 'everybody has made up their mind, there's no swing vote'.

until . . .

Big bounce from the Rep Convention - 'swing voters like what they saw'.

which led to . . .

Bush's lead goes astonomic? - 'Maybe George Gallup isn't dealing a straight hand.'

and now we have . . .

Kerry wins the first debate - 'But so did Mondale over Reagan and Gore over Bush'

Facts are, there are swing voters, they're going for Kerry, Gallup has a discredited agenda, Gore did beat Bush, and so will Kerry, even if Bush cancels the remaining debates.

2. Why? Because John Kerry looked like The President.
Millions and millions of people realized Thursday night that they've been fed a load of bull by the Bush campaign, and that -- in fact -- John Kerry will make one heck of a TERRIFIC president.

3. Kerry Gains Lead in Newsweek Poll - -
Call me a snob if you like, as I've said; but when a person gains a certain level of, shall we say, importance in life, it is incumbent on them to dress the part.

John Kerry had the gumption to rest the day of the debate, he didn't go hopping all over the globe. Storm, schmorm! He had the gumption to acquire whatever grooming aides he needed. Face it; we all need a bit of paint and polish here and there. I get my teeth whitened for goodness sake, doesn't everybody?? John Kerry saw that his hair was coifed properly to suit his station in life (he isn't married to Polly Pauper, for goodness sake!).

I'm beginning to think Bush cuts his nails with his pocket knife and perhaps Laura cuts his hair! Really!!! He looked tired. Rested is better!! Maybe he is taking it all too seriously!!

Actually you sound like a rightwing kool aid drinker spitting out the "Kerry is a groomed and tanned elitist" propaganda.

What you have is 1 man who is intelligent well mannered and concerned about what has happened to our country and another who is completely clueless (dumb as a rock)and has hijack our American freedoms with a group of PNAC supporting fascists.

Scroll down for my response...I'm actually quite proud of it

On edit: Couldn't help myself, I had to paste it in:

Personally, I don't think Bush's nails had a lot to do with it

Nor his hair, nor his tan.

I don't think being tired had a lot to do with it either. The fact is that he acted like a spoiled child, which doesn't surprise me, considering he's a prep-school cheerleader who "swaggers" around with his fake texas accent pretending to be a man (I'd challenge that cardboard cowboy to a horserace any time; I bet that connecticut pansy can't even put on a bridle).

The fact is, he has no record to run on, but he doesn't realize this, because he's constantly surrounded by his adoring fans. He couldn't believe that anyone could have the audacity to criticize his administration's policies, and all he could do was sit there with his pitiful little monkey grimace, blinking in utter stupor, whining about what "hard work" being president is.

Yeah, it's so hard that you've spent 40% of your time on vacation, right, Emperor Bunnypants???

Come on up to the mountains of Tennessee, away from your pretty little Crawford movie set, and I'll show you some real hard work. And let me tell you where to stick that pocketknife.

Welcome to DU, Twinkie. :)

9. Thanks
Apparently the whole manicure thing is Bootzie's big talking point of the day (at least that's what I heard from someone willing to dirty themselves at his manure-filled trough of pig feces). Whatever it takes to make you feel better, Bootzie, after watching your beloved fearless leader show what a whiney, witless, Alfred E. Neuman wannabe he is, on national television with 50 million people watching, no less.

Oddly enough, Bush looked rather orange to me the night of the debates. I don't really care one way or the other, but since Lynne Cheney deems it a classy campaign strategy to point out a decorated war veteran's seemingly "fake" tan, I'd say that unfortunate genetic mutation of an adolescent chimp defiling our white house with his filthy, candy-a$$ is fair game.

12. I'm not surprised
62,500,000 people saw that debate. Some of them are voters who don't follow current events closely. They saw one candidate who appeared in command of the facts, one who exhibited leadership, one who could think under pressure, one who appeared "Presidential". That candidate was Kerry. Any undecided who was not sure whether Kerry was up to the job of President would be reassured by the debate that Kerry was 100x more capable than Bush. I'm just surprised that Kerry's lead isn't bigger.
