TCM elects politicos to intro Kubrick pics
VP hopeful offers his two-cents on 'Strangelove'

By JOHN DEMPSEY
As the lines between showbiz and politics keep getting blurrier and blurrier, even Turner Classic Movies is weighing in, signing Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards to tape an introduction to a screening of "Dr. Strangelove."... WANT TO READ THE WHOLE STORY?

and hilarious! It's going to be on 10pm October 7th. It seems like it's going to be a whole night of political movies. (Great Dictator, The Best Man, etc)

:-)

4. LOL...well...what's he going to say?
Stop worrying and learn to love the bomb?

That's hilarious, but not sure if I see the point to it. That IS something, though.

5. Let's hope he says that Cheney reminds him...
... of a sort of cross between Dr. Strangelove and Merkin Muffley. :P

8. Hmmm..Orrin Hatch...
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 09:45 PM by Tandalayo_Scheisskop
Is gonna do "To Kill a Mockingbird". I would have thought "Of Human Bondage" would have been a lead pipe cinch for "The Master".

Note: It is said that there is more to Hatch's nom de guuerre than just his ability in The Senate. ;-)

11. Does Orrin Hatch really see himself as Atticus Finch?
"selected because its story of an idealistic country lawyer (Gregory Peck) reverberates with memories of Hatch¿s own past as a struggling law student and a young lawyer who took on pro-bono cases in Pennsylvania and Utah before being elected to the Senate."

Wow.

Now, seeing as John Edwards' son is named Jack Atticus...well....shucks.

9. OMG now I'm REALLY going to vote for Kerry/Edwards...
Saw Casablanca on TCM last night and remembered yet again how lucky I am to be able to watch movies from 60 years ago and how wonderful old movies are and how wonderful Mr. Osborne is...

Now my favorite politician is going to be on TCM?

Cool.

10. OMG! Priceless! Thanks for the heads up.
Looks like Edwards and i share an affinity for this priceless flick!

Is there any better (and more ripe) movie quote than this one?

"I can no longer sit back and allow communist infiltration, communist indoctrination, communist perversion and the international communist conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids."

Here's the info -

"In this very political year, as we approach the November elections, TCM has invited four prominent U.S. Senators to appear in interviews with host Ben Mankiewicz to introduce significant films in their lives. On October 7, John Edwards, Democratic vice presidential candidate and U.S. Senator from North Carolina, will consider Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964). Edwards chose Stanley Kubrick's black comedy about nuclear war because of its message that "putting this kind of power into the hands of human beings - no matter who they are - is an extraordinary thing.""

12. and McCain is hosting Paths of Glory
a very, very disturbing film about World War 1 and soldiers who are - lierally - sacrificed for politics. Unlike Dr. Stangelove -which i watch every year - this one is too powerful to re-watch, although I do want to hear McCain's comments.
