20. Hello! How are you doing? |
|
Do you live far from O.C.? Our rally is Saturday in Orange. My husband and I are taking our Beagle, Jean Harlow, along with us to show her support as a 'Canine for Kerry'. I came up with the idea and my husband is going to make a little tag for her collar. Cute, huh?

5. Well, we still have a Constitution that... |
|
... protects free speech (even if the dumbfucks in this government have a bad habit of not listening and shoving dissenting people into corners), and we still have a lot of good people, even if we don't agree with them (and some real turds, too, admittedly, who think that if one isn't a Repug, one is a traitor).
Gee, a lot of qualifiers there, but, hey, mostly true. :)

8. Three good things about America will be... |
|
If Kerry wins: 1. The president 2. The vice president 3. The Daily Show
If Chimpy Arbusto Bunnypants, Jr. "wins" 1. Cheap underwear, bub (unfortunately you won't earn enough to pay for it) 2. Here in NM, I will soon have beachfront property right outside my door (unfortunately, the West Coast will be under water) 3. The Daily Show (good no matter who's the president)

11. Our dreams are still beautiful |
|
The Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the aspirations that drove this nation for two hundred years before the coming of the Right's echo machine.
The women are beautiful (and the variety, oy gevalt).
Starvation and mortality are relatively low (I know it could be better).
This country is our my home and I love it. The inhabitants are about driven half-mad with fear, but most are relatively decent, and can be positively wonderful if you catch them in the right circumstances.
The reactions of the folks in New York after 9-11 and the way we pulled together. For all of our differences we are still family. This gives me hope.
The sound of waves breaking on the beach on a warm summer night, the sight of the sun rising over the mountains in the morning. Its hard to beat our variety of geography.
Regardless of how bad GW f'ed everything over the past four years, we are still an economic powerhouse that helps maintain the world's economic balance.
I could keep going, but you get the idea. Bush has only dimmed the dream somewhat, but if you look hard enough, you can still see it.
I will get off my soapbox now. Take care and keep the faith; hope is on the way.

1. The Constitution.
2. Americans invent a lot of neat stuff. Sometimes we even do something worth while with those inventions, like go to the moon.
3. No matter how badly we screw up, we eventually come to our collective senses and fix the problem.
4. Baseball.
5. Rock -n- Roll.
6. Popcorn.

Not so much where I live, where the outstanding geographical feature is the horizon, but out west there are some scenic locales that are unrivaled anywhere else in the world.
As for the other two, um . . . uh . . . er . . . you forgot Poland!

the Great Awakening has begun.
Neocons' prayers are not being answered. Their days are numbered.
We can deal with all the problems in the USA as long as the above statements are true.

17. There are so many things great about this great country of ours |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-03-04 01:40 AM by secular_warrior
So many things we take for granted. Look at what Putin is doing in Russia. He decided to make significant anti-democratic changes and nothing (except a revolution) can stop him. No matter how bad things get, or how bad the leader of our country may be, the founding fathers were geniuses who created a government to be run by idiots, a government which prevents even our most powerful leader (who is also the most powerful in the world) from destroying that government.
Many other countries like Canada and countries in Europe tend to look down on America, and they probably have good cause to do so with our current leadership and many of our policies over the last half century. But lest they forget it was this great country that proved liberal democracy could work. Most political thinkers of our founding fathers' time never believed liberal democracy could survive, much less thrive. It was our country that went through the growing pains to get it right: Jefferson's Bill of Rights, Lincoln's declaration that "a government of the people, for the people, by the people shall not perish from the earth", FDR's mission to save capitalism from itself, all the great soldiers who saved the world from fascism and communism, all the great citizen soldiers who fought and died for civil rights, all the brave soldiers who fight terrorism now...
So yes, there may be better, more modern, more refined, more equitable western nations out there -- but they only exist because America and her people believed in liberal democracy when few others did. It's easy to forget that in terrible times like these. But America has survived much worse than Bush and we will get through this. President Kerry will restore America to the shining beacon of freedom she once was.
