Do people love Shrub because of the American Cowboy image?
There's some guy on cspan, Evan Cornog, author of "Power of the story". A member of the audience asked if he thought Shrub was popular because he promotes the image of the American Cowboy. I actually think some people do! I LOVED the Lone Ranger, Hopalong Cassidy, Zoro, and RinTinTin...and still do! I just don't relate them to Shrub!

Do you think some idiots do?

1. Yes. He is the ultimate Marlboro Man....
He is a corporate icon.... a billboard suburban white males look up to in their traffic-jammed SUV's and idolize. He is a slick corporate marketing campaign that hides a dangerous and deadly agenda.... a pack of cancerous lies.

PS... check out my avatar RE: Warboy

3. And I hate all the fake cowbot crap
Edited on Sat Oct-02-04 11:47 PM by RationalRose
Yeah cowbot-it is a fake macho pose. He couldn't survive one day one the streets in a Northeast city. We'd chew him up and spit him out. Just like everything in his campaign, his image is based on bullshit.

5. "Cowbot," I like that
No, I really do. It describes Dubya for what he is. He's a white suburban elitist programmed to act like a figure many Americans look up to. Also describes Pickles, the Stepford Cow.

8. He wouldn't survive a day on the streets of Texas either!
His quasi ranch in Crawford is in a bubble. I lived in San Antonio for only six years, but let that boy loose downtown, and he would be cowering in some corner.

Worse than that! Put him on a real Texas ranch!!! Give him a horse and tell him to go out and fix the damn fence, or find the missing cattle...and he's toast! I son't quite understand the people of Texas. They really are pretty straight forward people. Maybe they are just supporting him because the country thinks he's a Texan and they don't want to loose face.

15. I heard his ranch
doesn't even have any horses. Is that true? And if so, how does that make him a cowboy?

6. The Cowboy is only one part of the American Myth
Myth is a very strong aspect of any society. The neo-fascist right has appropriated the American Myth for their own political purposes. The Democrats, and liberals in general, have been left in the dust on this very important issue.

The "Cowboy" represents much more than The Lone Ranger in political manipulation. Just one of the many representations, The Cowboy has become the embodiment of the rights "rugged individualism." In this case, rugged individualism performs much the same purpose as the volk identity in Germany.

This country is going through a very dangerous and sick time. The American Cowboy is the horse that the neo-fascists rode in on.... and it has and everything and nothing to do with the Lone Ranger and John Wayne.

12. except it's a media creation, when they actually see the chimp rather than
the media spin they don't like him all that much. just look at the debates on thursday where polls showed Kerry was more likable than Bush. and Kerry continued being his same self. he didn't try to put on some regular guy act.

17. Media tries to push the "plain-spoken, folksy" b*shit also.
They tell us over and over again that he's "one of us" because he mispeaks and occasionally stumbles over words.

So basically they are saying the American people relate to him because we're stupid and so is he. It pisses me off that they never get called on this.

People say they like Bush cause he's so likeable and they can have a beer and hotdog with him. :eyes: I'd rather have Kerry and hit a rock concert. :bounce:

16. The last cowboy I respected was Jack Burns. . .
Edward Abbey's Brave Cowboy (played by Kirk Douglas in the film version, Lonely Are the Brave). Those familiar with the story will understand why that image has passed from the scene and no longer has an impact on contemporary American culture.

18. What ever cowboy image he may have had- he lost.
He was exposed on Thursday to be nothing more than a petulant and spoiled little prissy priss cry baby, who's more than just a tad stupid.

He's a Cowbot!
