Kerry vs. Bush: target West Virginia evangelical bases
"Candidates are targeting evangelical base in W.Va.
by Rick Klein, The Boston Globe (newspaper) Staff, October 3, 2004

"BECKLEY, W.Va. -- Bush campaign volunteers are calling their fellow churchgoers. The Christian Coalition's voting guides will ship out shortly. And pastors across West Virginia are making the case -- sometimes explicitly, sometimes less so -- that President Bush is a better choice on spiritual grounds than Democrat John F. Kerry.

"Yet whether devout Christians will turn out en masse for Bush remains uncertain. The Republicans' network of pastors and religious voters is proving something less than rock-solid in a state and a region hit hard by manufacturing job losses, and with many sons and daughters serving in a war that has grown unpopular. In the campaign's final month, the Kerry campaign is beginning to escalate its fight for religious voters in West Virginia."

1. What a shame.... we have to sit here and complain about a war being
"unpopular" and the people on the other end have to worry about water, sewage, work, and finding their relatives. Somewhat unfair and unbalanced methinks.... but it has always been this way.

2. It's time...............
to start taxing the Churches. If they're going to actively participate in political debate and endorse one candidate over the other, they have just lost the right to be exempted from Federal Taxes.
The framers of our Constitution were well aware of the pitfalls involved when Religion interferes with Government. Separation of Church and State was mandated for a purpose, and we're beginning to see exactly why it is mandated. The "Religicons" must cease and desist. Period. There is no room for them in our Country.

3. but who's going to enforce it? who?
who will enforce the law? when the religious entities flaunt their no-tax status? violate laws and regulations?

the Federal Election Commission (FEC)? I.R.S.? U.S. Supreme Court? who?

Beneath my sarcasm -- and, yes, it IS sarcasm -- rings a bit of truth. Scary truth. Aren't all those agencies and courts packed?

. . . . . .

4. Yes, let's put pressure on our Congress to initiate taxes for churches.
