Bush's Draft Comment...
Has there been mush discussion of bush's comment saying we wil have only a volunteer army?....in the debate it was sounding like he was trying to sy no draft....any comments?

I thought he would get around that by saying there would be an 'american service' draft and one could volunteer for civil work or the military...

1. * avoided saying yes or no to a draft during the debate.
So, there will be a draft after the election.

2. I caught that comment too and was
waiting to see if anyone in the press or otherwise would pick up on it. I've been talking with people about the possibility of a draft coming and for the most part they'd like to commit me to an insane asylum.
I think it's definately a possiblity. In speaking with a dear friend who is a Vietnam Vet, his opinion is that there is NO OTHER WAY to shore up the military. He says the ANG is very over stressed and being used for things it was never intended used for.
While it might not be imminent I think a draft bears talking about. Too many people have their head in the sand.

3. Everyone that I talk to,
is convinced that shrub will draft after the election. That's why they are planning on voting him out. These are ordinary people, not news or political junkies. So, yeah, the word is spreading...quickly!

10. That's why I was relieved he made that statement.
We should be thankful to JK for bringing Bush out on this subject. If Kerry/Edwards hadn't already ruled out a draft under their administration, * would have had no reason to define his position on it, as well.

Now that his position is defined, we can hold him to it.

Ahem.

4. Chimp WILL start a draft. "Backdoor Draft"--president-elect Kerry.
He's already out of troops. He's "force hiring" the troops and extending tours. I have two draftable sons. Over my dead body.
I'm getting them the Irish citizenship to which they are entitled and we'll move to Ireland if we have to.

5. I would do the same.
My son is Canadian, 21 .. lives in Canada. I have no American children. If I did and they were of age I would move them. Peace and good health to you and yours.

9. Reality: They will continue killing...
...they'll never stop until they run out of weapons. And they'll never run out of weapons.

Utopia would be world peace. :)

8. One thing to remember is that the coWard's promises in the 2000 debate
Edited on Sun Oct-03-04 12:58 PM by 4_year_nightmare
weren't honored. Nor has he kept a lot of his promises since then.

When he said "we will have an all-volunteer army", it crossed my mind how he lied in the 2000 debates, but I also wondered if he were playing a semantics game: meaning that only the Army would be all-volunteer; all troops in other branches of the military will be drafted.

I know, it sounds like I'm reaching, but I know this man's character: He's a flat-out liar & he can't be trusted.
