Alright, WTF is WITH these idiots who want an "average joe" in the WH?!
I just read some news story on Yahoo and (as if I needed any more proof) I am totally convinced there are the most INCOMPETANT people living in this country. I'm borderline paranoid that these morons are walking around next to me.

I ask you: what the fuck is with these tools who want an "average joe" in the White House?? The same for those people who say "I could have a beer with Bush so I'm gonna vote for him". Yes, the smelly loser who hangs out at a bar - yes, that's who I want running the country. :: eye roll :: I just don't get it. Why people want an idiot just like them running the country astonishes me.

And then they interviewed this incompetant who said he voted twice for Clinton and for Gore in '00, but is voting for Bush now (I suspect this was a "plant" however). He is supposedly unemployed, lost his entire 401 (k), and opposes the war, but still supports Bush. Why? "Because if we have another war maybe I want a cowboy in the White Hoise". I've HAD it with all this cowboy shit. Bush isn't a fucking cowboy! He grew up in Kennebunkport and went to Andover for christssakes!! The chickenshit is scared to death of HORSES for crying out loud!!!

I'm sorry but I'm about to move to Canada. Is this country totally hopeless??

1. They've been told that voters want that for so long
They actually believe that's what they should want. It's like that old Red Foxx bit:

"I read in a white magazine that all black people carry knives. And that's true, I carry one myself. I bought it because I read in a white magazine that all black people carry knives."

:D

2. Serious Disconnect
These folks don't realize they're NOT voting for the Junior Class President. It's not a question of hoping you'll get to be one of the Kool Kidz if you hang out with the totally-for-sure hip guy and vote for him, although that's what they seem to think.

People who don't read newspapers or think apparently don't realize that this guy is in charge of more than choosing the theme song for the Prom. He's sending people--your neighbor, your son--to die for his own glory.

3. One of my huge
motivations in supporting first Wes Clark, and now John Kerry for the Presidency is precisely that I want someone smarter than me to run the country!!! Do these people also want a beer-drinking buddy to perform surgery on them? :eyes:

6. Don't insult working Americans -- that's what the Bushies WANT

The point is that the MEDIA make the equation "Bush is stupid and inarticulate and that's why he appeals to 'ordinary' Americans." What could possibly be more condescending? That's saying "ordinary Americans are stupid and inarticulate." And that's what the right wants it to appear that Democrats and "the liberal media" believe. It's how they divide and conquer America by culture war tactics.

Instead, understand that most working Americans are plenty smart. They just need to get information from a less biased source. The only way to win this is to accept that the Democratic party must be the party for as many Americans as possible, and must try to understand what working-class Americans in particular want and how they understand the world and work within that framework, and we have to accord "regular folks" the full measure of *respect* they deserve for working their asses off to keep this country going. Insulting the intelligece of eveyrday folks makes Democrats seem like snobs and elitists, and that's the whole game of Shrubco Inc. We have to learn to "practice our love" with people who don't yet understand why to vote Democrat. And also keep in mind that a vast number of working Americans *don't vote at all.* That's the real prize: if we can motivate those people to vote Democrat, everything changes.

Play to win.

12. I agree..
I think Bush is the one who is insulting to working-class Americans, by acting like a caricature of one. We need to help everyone see through his charade.

7. I remember during the Nixon years when he nominated some
nonentity to the Supreme Court, Congress blocked it and a neanderthal Senator from Nebraska claimed " Mediocrities need representation, too"! Captures the essence of their thinking, in my opinion. The more things change, etc.

8. I want half an average Joe
What I mean when I say I want someone average in the WH, is I want someone who's not an elitist snob, hasn't let the silver spoon up his nose blind him to the plight of the truly average American (i.e. one that makes under $20k a year and is struggling to pay bills), and has dealt with the same trials and tribulations the rest of us have.

I do NOT want someone of average intelligence or wisdom, because that's pretty f^ckin' stupid. I want someone of WAY above average in that regard.

I don't suppose there's any way we could get Clinton back in office, is there? Pretty please with sugar on it? I mean, here's a guy who's simply brilliant, has great insight into diplomacy, is one hell of a statesman, knew how to handle an economy, is utterly detested by the radical right and the American elite, smoked a little weed in his time, fooled around, played the saxophone, and knew the value of a good smoke and a good cheeseburger.

Jesus, what more could we ask for?

9. Marginalized?
First, keep in mind that the people in question are probably not a majority, per se.

Secondly, they may represent groups who tend to feel disenfranchised for one reason or another, even if they are not perceived to be so generally.

Then, consider that they more easily identify with what is familiar or more usual within their frame of reference.

I agree, don't put them down. The average Joe is an important part of the framework of this country. If you feel that intelligence and knowledge is an important factor in many equations, and you feel that you possess a reasonable amount of both, then you can see that education of others is more effective than castigating them and denouncing them as fools. Alienation and insults, no matter to what degree, only strengthens the divide.

In some cases, people go with the views of their peers or they are too busy to do anything more than accept a package deal political philosophy and trust in the people that present it to them.

I could suggest that we shift the focus to the media and political factions that utilize manipulation and propaganda to indoctrinate people who fit certain criteria. That's exploitation for political gains.

10. what they don't get is
Bush would not have a beer with them because they're too common and poor--and he doesn't hang with people who aren't filthy rich, which non of these yahoos who want to sit and have a beer with him are.

They don't get that they aren't invited along for the ride. They are the help and the employer doesn't fraternize with the help. Period. The day these people get this through their thick heads is the day that their whole world will fall apart... since they can't fathom that happening, they cling to their ignorant fantasies.
