WaPo: Influx of Wounded Strains VA (show this to any vets for *) |
|
This is so sad: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A2946-2004Oct2.htmlI guess real men don't get wounded - they have their rich daddies arrange to have other men get wounded - so why would Bush give a shit about wounded vets who can't get their disability pay? If you know any vets for Bush, show this to them and ask them why.

1. Even 15 years ago, the VA hospitals were choked with |
|
WWII vets who really weren't ill but who needed nursing home placement. Since the VA only pays for 6 months of private nursing home placement, the VA Hospitals became the dumping ground for vets without long term care insurance (and how many had THAT???). I remember thinking that if we got into a real war, the new crop of vets would be SOL, and that is what has happened. Instead of being shipped to the closest VA facility to their homes, they're being shoehorned in wherever a bed opens up.
Either the VA can build its own nursing home facilities (which is has, but which are too few and far between to count), or it can liberalize the regulations governing nursing home placement. In any case, if the quagmire goes on much longer, the VA system will be the first of the medical system to collapse under the weight.
