I Think I Figured Out How Bush's Handlers Get Him To Remember Stuff |
|
I was watching the replay of the second Gore-Bush debate last night on C-SPAN. When it came time for the closing statements, Bush gave his and it was obviously something he had been memorizing and memorizing for weeks and weeks.
It didn't sound natural at all, which is quit obvious to anyone who's ever seen him speak.
But what's no so obvious, at least to me, was Bush's blinking during his closing statement.
If you get a chance to see it on tape, or have a chance in the future to look at Bush's prepared speeches and statements when he's not reading from a teleprompter, you'll see Bush timing his blinks to coincide with his lines.
I've never heard of this as a technique to memorize a speech, but that's what Bush seemed to be doing. It definately seemed as if he was blinking in some sort of pattern, as it was really rapid during the speech and then stopped immediately after his last word.
Now, there's no logical reason to blink about three times a second when you're speaking, except if you're trying to remember your words with some sort of physical pacing.
Did anyone notice Bush blinking excessively during Thursday's debate?

2. We watched it again last night. On several occasions, he |
|
appeared to be imitating a frog. We kept waiting for the little tongue to dart out and catch a fly. It was hysterical. When he did this, it seemed to go on forever, too.

I DID notice him blinking like crazy the other night and mentioned it to my husband.
Experts in body language (and cops) know that when someone is lying, they tend to blink a lot.

"...here are some ways to figure out if you're being told the truth: Excessive blinking could be a giveaway. Keep an eye out for speech hesitations, whether it's pausing, using "ums," throat clearing or other stalling techniques." http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:vhS_Q2TMEtUJ:abcnews.go.com/sections/primetime/2020/PRIMETIME_010315_lying_feature.html+lying+blinking&hl=en
