Chris Matthews show...Townhall debate in jeopardy!
They can't decide on how partisan the questionnaires will be. They believe it was too pro Clinton in '92 and want 'soft' JK and 'soft' Bushit, instead of hardcore

and he'll take any question they have.

35. True, but democracy is ABOUT being responsive to the electorate
not small portions of the electorate...if the Media successfully pushes this, it says much about the state of our democracy.

And the Coward from Crawford skates on privileged shoes again.

Bush will CHICKEN out because, once a coward ALWAYS a coward! Bush might blame his over taxed, booze soaked, liver for making him look so yellow, but we know the truth! Bush ran away from Nam and now he's trying to run out again! Kerry already calls him a liar and if Bush don't show up, Kerry should also call Bush a COWARD on PRIME TIME TV!

38. I would have hoped he would have more dignity than a dog....
Sorry folks, my wife & kid are away visiting relatives, and I've done little today but work & watch Kill Bill.

He should have the manliness to at least accept his fate- if he is to go down in flames against John Kerry, that is surely more honorable than ducking him, like he's ducked everything that requires effort in his miserable, overprivleged life.

If he is to have less dignity than a dog, so be it. Let us think of him as a slug.

But in a nice, environmentally friendly way, OK?

8. does it come down to them weighing these factors:
the risk factor exposing this simpleminded, lazy cretin to ANY sort of unmanaged situation

versus

the contumely surrounding his refusal to debate

they obviously are depending on the media to play this down as much as possible, and let the surrounding controversy go the way of EVERY single one they've ignored for the last five years

back to Rather

back to the Swift Boats

On to the Global Test Fiasco!

No chance in hell, given that direct comparison, even if Edwards/Cheney is a sitdown.

by all means, ask questions any dumbass could answer. Hell, let's just pull someone off the street and give them the job of leader of the free world. I hope Kerry comes out and says he would be very disappointed if they lobbed softballs his way, but they're welcome to lob them at Bush if he thinks the debates are too hard for him. In other words, 'Bring it on!'

This dumbass is the President of the US, if there should be any complaints it should come from the Kerry camp. Kerry is not the incumbent. An incumbent is suppose to have all the answers or at least be able to debate. Wake up America!!!!!!!!!! My God who is the President these days? Shrub move over and just let Kerry take over.

Shrub, where is Poland on the map?

40. this sounds like bull
I would bet they will cover the town hall by

(1) claiming they are worried about tough questions; thus laying cover for
(2) arranging to have many shills in the audience (hey they ended upon the first debate too); and
(3) arranging to have all tough questions sent to Kerry and all softballs to Bush;

Bush will come off as moderate and nice, and Kerry will be on the defensive all night. That is their plan.

50. Exactly. It's stagecraft. Just like the Kerry campaign "light" tantrum.
According to the NYTimes, the Kerry people carried on about the timing lights to lower expectations. All the while Kerry was prepping, it was clear he had NO problem being concise and staying in the time limits. The Bushies, I am sure, fervently believe that Bunnypants is going to come roaring back in the town hall debate, and just want the excitement to build. I think Kerry will skewer him again.

51. And I keep wondering if Kerry messed up on GMA intentionally
to further send the press into gloom an doom mode and expect nothing from the "flip flopping, long winded senator".

We can never underestimate Kerry as a politician - he knows what he's doing. Remember the open mic "mistake" in the primaries where he slams Dean "off the record" ? Kerry understands this game.

At the Debate party at Ramsey's house I think I was up to $2k that Bush would pull out of some of the debates. No one was foolish enough to take it.

I hope Bush pulls out of the Missouri town hall and you know what - Kerry will still show up for the debate.

We can put the big MO in the Blue column!!!

There is no way Shrub could pull out and save face.
He might get "sick" the day of but to dis the debate would be suicide. PS Hope he wears the same scowling game face he wore in #1.

Can you imagine the polls if he did that crap on a citizens question?
