With the Kerry campaign's new ad,
"Lost; Desperate," which directly accuses Bush of lying, people should be more pleased with the tone of Kerry's campaign rhetoric from here on out. The reason, I believe, Kerry decided against using such terminology until now is that it's typically the sign of a desperate campaign -- notice how shrill the Bush people have been since the debate -- or it's the sign of confidence. Kerry was in a little trouble, but he had no reason to push the panic button,
or do something that makes it look like he was pushing it.It takes character to have almost your entire party screaming for you to do something, but to hold your own council and stick to your plan. Kerry made cosmetic changes, and he paid lip service to the demands people were making, but it seems to me he was biding his time until the moment was right -- and it is.
No one can know who will win this thing -- it's a topsy-turvy electorate being shaken by a weird media -- but I feel absolutely confident that Kerry has the strength of character to see this thing through fighting for the very last vote up to the very last minute of the campaign, and fighting with smarts.
