Bush Pulls In Front in Ohio Poll
Bush pulls in front

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Renowned as a strong closer, John Kerry will need a stellar performance in the presidential campaign’s final month if he is going to win Ohio.

President Bush has opened a 7-point lead, 51 percent to 44 percent, in a new Dispatch Poll, conducted almost entirely before Thursday night’s debate in Florida.

It’s the first time in the four Dispatch Polls during the campaign that Bush has won support from a majority of respondents. But a new national poll conducted by Newsweek shows Kerry has vaulted to a 3-point lead after his strong performance in last week’s first presidential debate. The poll of 1,013 respondents, conducted Thursday and Friday after the debate, showed Kerry beating Bush, 49 percent to 46 percent, in a head-to-head matchup and 47-45 when independent Ralph Nadar is included.

Even veteran Republican pollster Frank Luntz found that 16 of 18 people on a panel of swing voters thought the Massachusetts senator won the debate. "Kerry is well poised to enjoy a polling surge," Luntz said. Republicans say Bush’s leadership and consistency, especially in the war on terror, eventually will win the day, and note presidential candidates often bounce back after stumbling in the first debate.

1. A Frank Luntz sighting
Back where he belongs, an obscure fourth paragraph reference and identified as a Republican hack

2. All done before the debate
I'll wait until we see some polling from after the debate. It has to change.

3. Again, this was before the debate
Rasmussen has Kerry down by just one in Ohio. I think Kerry has a shot there.

8. Has the problem with the registration cards been fixed, so
that those folks (not those folks attacking us) can vote.

5. All poles are skewed.
If i remember correctly * led Gore by 13 before the election. Anything even close to that or less, spells a win for Kerry.

10. Most polls belatedly pointed to an election eve
shift in 2000 that narrowed their gaps from an average of 4-6 point Bush advantage, but those adjusted numbers were not publicly known until after the election. Even 2 and 3 days before the election, they reflected an even larger Bush advantage. Yes, I think the polls are terribly flawed. Probably the truest polls are performed by the campaigns themselves, since they are most in need of accurate data on where they stand.

displayed by Chimpy the other night.

7. I've never heard of the Dispatch. Doesn't sound like a known polling
company. Is it?

11. Oh. Oooooooh. Not good. That's quite a spread to close the gap on.
Bummer. Ohio is SO important. I don't get it, what with their loss of jobs and all. I even saw on C-Span a survey on the political ads conducted by USA Today with a group of undecideds that I THINK were from Ohio. It seemed to me that most of the group, while undecided, had leanings toward Kerry. That wasn't the purpose of the survey. I'm going by their comments to the ads. Several seemed inclined to favor Bush, but most seemed either truly in the middle or pro-Kerry. ?????

12. What kind of nit-witted organization does a poll BEFORE a debate...
... and then releases it AFTER the debate?

Duh!

Any job-seekers in the Columbus area? Send 'em your resume -- no matter what your background, I'm sure you can do a better job covering the news.

Just that first paragraph alone... who in their right mind would print that, only to 'fess up a paragraph later that a big chunk o' reality is missing from the report? There's nothing present-tense about it.

Amateur hour.

:wtf:

14. A Repuke-owned newspaper...
...that's who. I was in college in Ohio in the 60s and 70s, and the Dispatch was absolutely the WORST. I remember that after the Kent State massacre, they basically said, "Serves them right."

the Dispatch.

18. Well
With the economy in the shits in OH and all their blue collar workers having no insurance and no work, one would think they would have more sense. If they want * to be their fearless leader, I pity them their ignorance.
