Democratic Icon Ted Kenndy in Iowa for Kerry
DAVENPORT, Iowa (Reuters) - Sen. Ted Kennedy, employing the oratorical flourishes that have helped to make him a Democratic icon, campaigned in Iowa on Saturday for presidential hopeful John Kerry, his fellow Massachusetts senator who is trailing in the polls nine days before the Iowa caucuses.

Although the two have not always seen eye to eye, Kennedy heaped praise on Kerry for his "steadfastness, continuity ... qualities of steel and determination," which he said made Kerry the most of the nine Democratic contenders to unseat Republican President Bush in November.

"If he (Kerry) had been president we wouldn't be at war in Iraq," Kennedy told reporters after addressing a rally of a few hundred people organized by the Kerry campaign.

"I'm swayed," said Mark Benson, a 57-year-old deputy sheriff. "I was wavering between him and Gephardt but I think Kerry has more substance. The demeanor and the stature makes you feel that he's a president."

Though yesterday I called endorsements basically worthless, I always enjoy hearing what the big names in the party have to say. Kennedy had a lot of really good things to say about his friend and colleague, John Kerry. The last comment in the article is right on. Kerry looks like a president. His portrait would fit in just fine in the National Portrait Gallery.

1. Good for Teddy!
I'm a Dean supporter, but Teddy should support his fellow MA senator.

Plus, any vote from Gephardt to Kerry in Iowa is a okay with me. Just don't take any Dean votes! :)

3. Report from the field
1,000 people showed up for this event. 150 new Kerry supporters!

In a side note, the spy report says 200 showed up for the Dean/Gore event, 17 with Kerry buttons. }( I can't report that as fact of course, everybody tells things in their own way, I know.

21. John Kerry is the closest thing to Forrest Gump
in real life! He's been everywhere! The one of him with John Lennon is fabulous.

16. I had the honor of meeting
Teresa Heinz Kerry this evening! She is absolutely incredible. Such an in-dept knowledge and understanding of world affairs especially relating to the less fortunate. I am honored to have met her.

17. Good for Kerry
It's good to see Sen. Kennedy has loyality to his home state product. Although glad to see Gore with my man Dean, I bet Lieberman wishes Gore was as loyal as T.K.

20. Lucky you!!
She's such a wonderful person. I think it would be incredible to have an immigrant as First Lady. How can you get more American than that.
