Bumiller's WH Letter- They tried to get Bush to lose it in mock debates!
The "WH Letter" is usually ridiculously spun for Bush, but this week, not so much
snip>

"We would try to get him to the point of impatience; we challenged him," said Andrew H. Card Jr., the White House chief of staff, recalling how Mr. Gregg and the staff pushed the president's buttons in their mock debates.

After the encounter in Miami, which even many Republicans said had helped Mr. Kerry, Mr. Card insisted that Mr. Bush was merely eager to rebut his opponent, and was not the angry and defensive debater the Democrats described. When asked if any of the president's mock debates had not gone well, Mr. Card replied that "some days are better than others."
.........
Mr. Gregg declined to say how many preparation sessions the president has had, although Mr. Bush's advisers said he was adamant that he not be overloaded at the last minute. (Mr. Kerry had three full days of debate sessions at a Wisconsin resort last week.)

"We've done as many as the president thought were necessary," Mr. Gregg said.

1. I just heard on some show
maybe Chris Matthews sunday show? that Bush's debate prep was very informal and not very long, in other words...Bush once again failed to do his homework.

6. Don't say that! He may actually try to hire a Dubya impersonator
to stand in for him at the next two debates!

8. Hah! Yeah, I can see the headlines now
Thursday--Today GWB signed an executive order creating the cabinet position of White House Debater.

(Now, help me, who would he name to fill the position? Jim Baker? Peggy Noonan?)

2. "We've done as many as the president thought were necessary,"
sounds like someone was trying to distance themselves from the devastating and clown like performance Bush presented to the world in the first debate.

5. I bet neither the aides OR Bush wanted to participate
Can you imagine trying to bait him? With the way he holds grudges, who would want that job?!

Uh, Mr President...Ha! Did you notice that I didn't call you dear leader. Are you "plenty hot" yet?

11. remember, he said he's the president, and doesn't HAVE to
Edited on Sun Oct-03-04 08:41 PM by Gabi Hayes
explain himself, and he's such a DICK that he won't countenance any sort of disagreement under any circumstances, being as removed from reality as he is

he reminds me of the Gene Wilder character in Start the Revolution Without Me...the one with the Falcon puppet on his wrist

4. He's the Boy King.
He doesn't have to justify himself to the peons.

It doesn't surprise me that no one in the media has picked up on the fact that by showing up unprepared, he was basically telling the American people "Go fuck yourself."

10. I can't believe any of his aides would dare
to really get in his face. They'll lie and tell him he did well. No big deal, boss!

7. Great excuse, Andy...
"Mr. Card insisted that Mr. Bush was merely eager to rebut his opponent, and was not the angry and defensive debater the Democrats described."

If he was so eager to rebut, why didn't he say anything but uh...uh...eyeroll...uh...smirk when he had the chance.

12. Dammit, because he's the POTUS, not some rocket surgeon!!
Look, do you want a guy who can discuss public policy or a guy who'll be a LEADER instead? Do you want someone who channels God or some flipflopper who WASTES all of his time trying to understand all the little nuances and mere facts about the world? Huh? HUH?
