Conservative Republicans see the danger ahead if Bush is elected

We Must Break with Our Republican Past in this Election

Conservative Republicans see the danger ahead if Bush is elected, and break with tradition to vote for a Democrat this year.

Pittsburgh, PN (PRWEB) October 2, 2004 - John E. Hemington Jr. is a Vietnam Veteran and has been a registered Republican for more than 25 years. He told RepublicansForKerry04 recently that he wants to add his name to the rapidly growing list of Republicans who are supporting John Kerry. “Like many others, I can no longer bear seeing my party and my nation disgraced by the crew now holding the White House,” Hemington said. “And we are not alone. The sons of both Ronald Reagan and Dwight D. Eisenhower have now also endorsed John Kerry. Whatever else one might call it, the Bush administration is not conservative and does not share or promote any conservative values with which I am familiar.“

“Illegal, unprovoked, endless war; $470B deficits; the shredding of the Constitution; the merger of church and state; environmental devastation; the disassembly of the social safety net; these actions don’t reflect conservative values at least not my values, nor the values of any conservatives I know, “ Hemington said. And Hemington is correct when he says that he’s not alone. There is a growing angry movement of old-line conservative Republicans away from Bush and his policies. It is a difficult and painful move for many conservatives who have never before considered voting for a Democrat, but they know that it will be more painful if they have to put up with another four years of the Bush administration’s destructive policies.

2. There are.
And once Bush is gone, the Republican party is going to face disarray as true conservatives battle it out with fundamentalist Christians for control of the party.

4. I'm one.
I woke up to what this administration was to be before the 2000 election. But others are still asleep, or are awakening as we type. I don't need to imagine the latest debate opened some eyes. I know it did.

The paragraphs in the original post say it all for me.

21. Progressing by steps, I think.
The combination of Extremist Right control of the White House, Congress, Senate, and with it's fingers on the strings of the media, means that even devestating problems can be glossed over. However, with each mistake a few more moderate conservatives wake up.

Waking up more of them is one reason to keep working hard. The other reason is that it's hard and uncomfortable to wake up. It's very easy to roll over and fall back into that false dreamland many conservatives are currently in.

5. Yes, I've heard those sentiments spoken in other places
myself. It's been a difficult tug of war within the Republican party for years...(with regards to the onslaught of the far rightwing/christian element)

I hope the Republicans can finally shake off those entanglements once and for all........for the good of their party and the country.

6. look at illinois for an example of what
happens when a small group of extremists try to take control of a moderate republican state. keyes-who will get no more than 25% of the vote-that is from a republican who sat in on the "election" of alan keyes. the neo con conservatives in this state have shown to the nation just how desperate they really are....

It looks more and more like Shrub's campaign promise is coming true. He's united people all over the place ... against him.

Amazing how things work.

12. Everyone knows the polls are biased for Bush*.
Read statistics, and you will find it is so. I do not have to do your research for you.

14. not only that
'polls are biased' but they aren't counting the newly registered voters and most of those are registering so they can vote for Kerry.

If all is fair and square Bush* will not win the election!

Of course, we here at the DU know all about the Republicans cheating ways.

13. Of course he has supporters
The brain dead, the religiously insane, macho me-tooers who have seen one too many Arnold Swarzenegger movies, gun nuts, greedy Korporate fat-cats and other various Kool-Aid swillers who are too lazy or ignorant to take a look outside of their immediate self-interest or the worldview that has been spoon-fed to them by the Korporate Media.

Happily as the debates go on more people will be able to see the John Kerry that the media has been working assidously to smear or hide while they also see the brain damaged monkey who has cratered our country's potential for the past 3 1/2 years drawn into stark relief. I am loving it.

Keep in mind, 50% of everyone is below average......

By the way, welcome to DU!
:hi:

That's funny unless you know about a skew, like lets say if Bill Gates walks into a bar. Him being in that bar would make every bodies average wealth in the bar in the millions. Just like they try to pull all the rest of B.S. tricks with who gets what tax break. We know it's all fixed you just have to look at the results

Introduction To WushWorld

Your Network For Bonding With Those Totally Freaked Out
By The Prospect of Four More Years of Republican Rule Under George W. Bush

Let's face it folks, we have come to a crossroads in the evolution of human consciousness and existence, and George W Bush is right there in the middle of the intersection directing traffic. This is a problem! Most people with a minimal level of awareness figure that they should obey the signals that nature, the economy and the life are sending us. But unfortunately George W Bush and his capitalist conies believe that we're on an evolutionary roll and, "What the hey... let's barrel on through the rotary."

At WushWorld, we have considered the larger implications of what's happening here, semi-deeply, and we have arrived at the conclusion the George W. Bush Paradigm has one essential characteristic: a total absence of historical perspective or long-term thinking. Unfortunately this causes Republicans to extrapolate into the future, without regard to what has happened the past. They then formulate policy on the basis of misguided gut instincts, utterly devoid of any analysis or contemplation, taking their cues from the totally misguided policies of other Republican icons.

20. I'm aware of it; I was riffing on the previous poster's
assetion that 50% of the people support Bush. Given that post has been deleted, the statement regarding "average" doesn't really have context anymore.

For the record, I really don't buy into the myths of "average" or "normal" outside of their statistical or mathematical definitions.

Cool article. I'll take a closer look at it later, but the lack of sense of historical context shown by the Bushies might be the most disturbing aspect of this presidency. Ironic given that Bush theoretically has a BA in History....

11. He is the most hated president in recent U.S. history
Edited on Sun Oct-03-04 11:14 PM by Democat
That is a sad fact and that alone is reason for him to not run again for the good of the country.

Bush doesn't care about what's good for the country, though.

17. Swift Pubs speak up for Kerry and against Bush, I luv it....
I always suspected there would be a bunch of Republicans soured on Bush who would cross the LINE...this confirms it... much more than I had dared hoped for...

I hope to see 15 + % cross the line to vote for Common Sense and Progress...instead of the regressive policies of the Bush Crew.
