Will Harkin's endorsement seal the deal for Dean in Iowa?
Will Sen. Tom Harkin's endorsment of Governor Howard Dean, M.D. seal the deal for Dean in Iowa? I think it could push Governor Dean to the 50% range, with Gephart and Kerry coming in distant and irrelevent 2nd and 3rd places.

Thoughts?

1. Nothin' can seal the deal.
The media has their target set on Dean so the coming weeks will be telling. I wouldn't doubt if right before the Iowa caucus some 'girl' comes out of hiding saying Dean pushed her in the sand box when they were 2.

BREAKING: DEAN ASSAULTS TWO YEAR OLD! But he too was two as well.

8. And someone from Canada on DU who never missed an
episode said "no worries" he was always great.

I have to say that if what they threw at him yesterday is the worst (and I'm guessing it is, why else would they have picked that) he's in fine shape.

10. There's nothing of substance to attack in those tapes at all

they pour over hours and hours and hours of tape to find something, ANYTHING, to use against Dean... and what have they come up with.

Take every stupid thing Dean has ever said and multiply it by a factor of 50, and you still wouldn't even come close to Clark saying Regan is a truly great leader who saved the military or Kerry telling dems mad at the 2000 elections to just "get over it and stop crying in your tea cups."

17. Oh but Dean said that Democrats should not be surprised if
G.W. Bush was elected to Two Terms....you must have watched a different video than I did...

3. It may stop the bleeding some, but with Ted Kennedy up there
campaigning for Kerry....I don't know. Dean made the headlines in that state's capital on Fri. A.M. and they weren't good headlines I hear. Those tapes really hurt him...

He even said that Gore was "slow on his feet" once on video, and Gore is up there today and tomorrow campaigning for him.

Pretty sad, really...

5. Shipping in the senior senator
from your own state is not particularly attractive.

Kennedy doesn't have nearly the credibility in IA that Harkin or even Gore and Bradley had.

7. 1,000 people showed up for Teddy
200 for Dean/Gore. According to on the ground reports, albeit from a Kerry supporter but I don't think he was lying. I think people underestimate the love for the Kennedy family, still.

11. According to local newswires
It was only 500 people in Davenport. Something the article doesn't explain was that the Davenport area (the quad cities, including Moline, Bettendorf, and Rock Island) is a pretty densely populated area.

I don't have the audience count for the Dean/Gore/Harkin rally.

6. The deal won't be sealed by an endorsement
It's going to be sealed by relentless work on the ground to get people out to caucus.

13. I hope so, but it's too close to call.
If Dean wins Iowa, they'll accuse him of cheating his way to the top. Forget all the polls that show him in first place :eyes:

16. If Harkin's endorsement doesn't help Dean in Iowa, then.....
Dean is in trouble. Because Harkin is a very popular and respected Democrat in Iowa.

18. Gore probably helps the most.
I'm not certain if the a lot of the garbage being thrown around by the Republicans, the media, and some Democrats is going to stick to Dean or not.
