Freepers STILL beating a dead pen
Thought you'd like this one:
------------------------------------
KERRY DEBATE ACTIONS BEING SEVERELY MISIDENTIFIED, EVEN AT FOX; ACTION NEEDED
Various | October 4, 2004 | MississippiMan

Posted on 10/04/2004 12:03:24 PM PDT by MississippiMan

The issue of what Kerry brought with him to the podium is not a petty one. A candidate who had simply a list of talking points on paper would be at a huge advantage vs. the other participant who played by the rules.

Based on the most recent reports here, it sounds as if even Fox News is about to forget and drop the issue, since they've declared that they're 99% certain the object in question is a pen.

It's hard to fathom what's going on here, unless they're viewing an incomplete clip of what took place. For even the low-resolution copies of the event that are posted online make it blatantly clear that, yes, he had a PEN (OBJECT 1) in his RIGHT hand, but he also removed a LIGHT-COLORED RECTANGULAR OBJECT (OBJECT 2) from inside his jacket with his LEFT hand. He then handles the object in a fashion that suggests UNFOLDING, and places it on the deck of the podium.

As mentioned already, I am a digital forensics examiner. I have a state-of-the-art forensic video system. I have briefly examined the low-resolution clips of the event, and at first impression, OBJECT 2 appears to be a folded sheet or sheets of light-colored paper. It is DEFINITELY rectangular. It is DEFINITELY light-colored. And it is DEFINITELY distinct and separate from OBJECT 1.

I would very much like to examine a high-resolution version of the clip; ideally this will be an uncompressed digital video file digitized from a digital broadcast master. If anyone has any connections or access to one of the networks or C-SPAN or whatever, and can obtain said file, it would be immensely helpful.

This is about playing by the rules, folks. I for one am sick and tired of sitting back and watching the rules broken without consequence. It is high time to hold people accountable. That applies to the candidates and the media, whether the media member in question is CBS or Fox News Channel. If it's wrong, it's wrong. And if they're reporting that Kerry brought nothing but a pen to the podium, THEY'RE WRONG.

Email fox and ask for posting of the High Res footage. At least the first 40 seconds.

C-SPAN sells copies of the debate on DVD. You can buy it for 25 dollars here:

Good luck. I've continued to email fox and others pointing out exactly what you wrote that there is no way it is a PEN.

It is hard to believe Kerry would do something like this--not because he has scruples, of course, but because the fallout if caught could be large. That said, have you considered that there might be HDTV recordings of this somewhere? They would have much better definition than someone could pull off of a VCR recording a standard broadcast.

Good luck in finding a digital version of the clip. Let us know what you come up with. A lot of people are playing this down but this is a clear indication of the character of Kerry or lack thereof.

This should be pursued by the bloggers and the real news people (that is, not Pierre Jenning). It was a big mistake to let Clinton off the hook because people got tired of his scandals. That should never happen again.

Rush argued that they already "got away" with this and that it was foolish for anyone connected with the Bush campaign to go after it.
They cheated, and nothing will happen here. I bet the next time, Kerry will be scrutinized like nobody's business though. Cameras will be looking at his hands and ears VERY carefully.

I personally don't care about "Fox"

I care what happens in the communities on the net. Just like the Rather story, the net drove it.

I'm surprised more experts like you haven't jumped on board. Whatever it is, it sure doesn't look like a pen.

And as I noted elsewhere, did anyone notice how smooth Kerry's move was? Like a pro.

Watch your chips with him around.

I agree with you that we should demand an investigation into this. We've already seen how FReepers and grass roots examiners can make a difference as witnessed in the Rather deal. As far as I am concerned, based on the footage, Kerry is guilty unless he proves he is innocent and that's how firm we must be with these lyin', cheatin', stealin' democrats.

Good luck finding someone who can get the file clip you wish to observe! I hope you are successful!
My goodness....not one mainstream news organization is willing to press kerry on his failure to release his full military history (they know, like we do, it is not pretty, those parts kerry has kept hidden)....

Nor has the mainstream media told America about a BOOK, yeah, an actual BOOK authored by kerry that has an upside down AMERICAN FLAG on it, called 'The New Soldier', which was published and sold in stores and then pulled from print when kerry decided to run for congress.

I guess we are not supposed to debate an ACTUAL BOOK THAT KERRY WROTE.

Isn't it simply astounding to see up close and personal the horrendous bias of CBS, NBC and ABC?

These news organizations are so unbalanced it is simply amazing. No wonder they are falling by the wayside...bout time!

19. Their logic is non-existent, as usual
Even IF Kerry had brought notes, that wouldn't explain bush's pathetic performance. The freezing, the stumbling, the agitation, the complete inability to answer questions about his own policies (indeed, to say anything beyond "Kerry's a flip-flopper"); How would a piece of paper on Kerry's podium cause that?

Face it freepers, your guy lost. He's clearly less intelligent and less informed than Kerry is. And when your guy loses in November, I hope you will be so courteous as to drop the issue, since you seem to think discussing the 2000 election makes us "sore losers".

18. I found something in an unrelated article that may be the answer:
<<He walked down the stairs, toward the living room. In his striped shirt and tie Kerry looked like any other politician. Then he reached into his suit pocket. In the light of the stairwell, a piece of metal glinted in his hand. It was his dog tag, his identity, stripped to its essentials: "Kerry john f. Service # Usn Rom cath. Blood type O."

He carries the chain in his pocket, always: "This brought me home safe." In Vietnam, he had taped the dog tags together so they wouldn't rattle during secret missions. There's still a piece of tape on it, but the second dog tag is missing. "Alex, my daughter, has it," he said.>>

This was in a beautiful article that is now posted on this forum. It's an article from Washington Post.

SO.. could it BE that Kerry was reaching into his pocket for his cherished dog tag? Do the freepers want to open THAT discussion, the one that highlights Bush's failures during Vietnam??

20. Here's what's wrong with them in one sentence.
"The issue of what Kerry brought with him to the podium is not a petty one. A candidate who had simply a list of talking points on paper would be at a huge advantage vs. the other participant who played by the rules."

That mentality of thinking, that someone with a pre-conceived list of "Talking Points" would do better than someone who can actually think on their feet and come up with rational, intelligent, adaptable thoughts. They really believe in this shit, in this mindless regurgitating of slanted pseudo-facts.

It's ironic, as well, since between the two candidates, the one who is completely LOST without his Talking Points is Bush, not Kerry.

Kind of reminds me of grade school. . . and high school. The supposedly smart kids were the ones that could memorize the textbook and spit it back out at you. Talking Points for American History. The REALLY smart kids could tell you WHY the book said what it said.

That's the difference between them and us. Don't ever forget it.
