Wishful thinking or is the media turning on Bush?
I was pleasantly surprised by CNN's Judy Woodruff asking Bush Campaign Chairman Mark Racicot to comment on the Gallup question: "which candidate was more intelligent" showing Kerry by a landslide. She grilled him pretty nicely on Bush's "disappointing performance" at the debate.

I don't think we would have heard that asked a week ago. Am I projecting my own desire to see those jackals put Chimpy on the hot seat? I know they are fickle bastards and would turn against us in a heartbeat, but does anyone out there think the media is getting tougher on the Evil Ones?

7. I have noticed a few questions that were a little more than the normal T
Ball stuff they have been serving up the Shrub. But it may be so they get some practice. You saw how the idiot bush reacted when he applause line got no response. They are starting to let the air out of his bubble.

3. Hmmph...maybe
..but it seems to me that they are just helping Bushco lower expectations for the next debate. If he just shows up and doesn't pee his pants they'll call it a win.

4. They're doing this because of Democrats emailing their...
useless corporate weenie asses all the time. I use "Correct CNN" whenever I spot their bias (stopped several weeks ago because I turned off all TV news). I'm sure the DU post-debate spin control operation really woke them up. When you get several thousand emails in your personal mailbox, it tends to make one pause, even media whores.

My compliments to all DUers who nail these bastards on a regular basis. It makes a huge difference.

5. You are kidding, right?
When reporters do their jobs, they're not "turning on Bush." The corporate media are so far to the Right as a group that when there's any criticism of the Bush administration, it sticks out like a solar flare.

If the media did their jobs, they'd provide thoughtful and critical analysis of all issues and candidates.

6. Maybe the print media is tired of printing apologies
Fortunately more of them are being
held accountable for what they say
and print. It's hard work, but
someone has to do it.

9. I think a couple of things might be going on---
the B/C campaign showing some cracks for one but then remember how very vocal we all got last week after the debate and flooded them with comments after the debates via e-mail, phone, and fax. We've got Media Matters and Air America and DU and we're really fighting them hard every single time we hear their usual pro-B/C bullshit on air.

10. The media is very fickle...
It's no use to depend on them. Create your own media instead (like DU).

14. But their compass
always comes back to true north. The Fairness Doctrine is the least we could do to keep them on track. Private control of public information is as bad as private water. Government control can be bad, especially if unduly influenced by the same private corporations. Free dispensing and free forums and journalists directly paid by the listeners, readers or viewers minus all advertising would be an improvement since the Internet gives resources better able to compete against infotainment trivia.

The free access to information, ironically to major media on line as well, makes the astute citizen better than the hobbled journalist.

13. Well, their own credibility is on the line
There's only so much excuse-making the media do for Bush before THEY start looking as silly as he does. And if Kerry wins, he could rain down quite a bit wrath upon them in the form of corporate media "reform." For which we have only ourselves to blame--the way we blizted the online polls right after the first debate made it impossible for them to turn on their spin machine a la Gore vs Bush 2000. We should be very proud of ourselves because we made the few pro-Bush spinners stick out like sore thumbs. But we'll have to work twice as hard after the remaining debates, because the Rethugs will be lying in wait for us.

I saw a post earlier today that described a Fox News show as sounding shockingly centrist. But the coverage of the remaining debates will be the real test. If there's any way to "save" Bush, and back it up with oversampled polls, you can bet they'll go for it. But if Kerry continues to prevail, and we make it impossible for the media to say anything different, they'll have to see the writing on the wall and come up with a more fair and balanced act.

16. Rush sounded very defensive in the morning
I am thinking they are looking at horrible internal poll results. He was already trying to explain why it's hard to win national elections with changing demographics, how we need to stop immigration, close borders and change how we teach history in all those liberal, leftie schools and colleges. Big shift from a landslide victory prediction.
