Upcoming Debate... Kerry and Taxes...
Ok, so I'm pretty stoked after the 1st debate. Considering Kerry's commanding lead on issues such as healthcare and the economy, I'm pretty confident that Kerry will do well in the 2nd debate.

However, I'm a little concerned about how he will respond to challenges about raising taxes. We all know his tax strategy is much more appropriate than Bush's, and there are those of us out here who would gladly pay more with JK than endure another four years of GWB. However I'm concerned about the majority of voters who aren't as informed as most of us are.

On its face, the "Kerry = More Taxes / Bush = Less Taxes" issue is going to be a tough one. Especially to those that don't take the time to learn how their brackets will be affected.

so here's the $64,000 question.

How is Kerry, and how will Edwards answer this? Edwards I'm not so worried about, he could inspire an acorn. But Kerry's intelligence may prevent him from providing a short, sweet, and to the point response (read: sound-bite) that gets the job done.

Remember, it needs to convince undecideds and left-leaning conservatives that vote their pocketbooks...

1. Bush = Less Taxes For The Ultra Wealthy
Kerry/Edwards = no new taxes on the middle class.

Simple, sweet, and to the point!

2. Nope. I figure the 2nd one is Bush's (townhall mtg style).
But the 3rd one, the one centering on the economy, THAT one is Kerry's.

3. Real tax relief for the middle class
and roll back tax cuts on the top 2%

How complicated is that?

4. Those taxes worked just fine in the 1990s,
so I'm not sure why all the sudden we needed tax cuts that seemed to do nothing but balloon the deficit.

5. first, scathingly deconstruct the lies that have been spread via tv and
then contrast Bush's irresponsible economic policies
(using data like job loss, reduced tax revenue as well as Bush's lies in 2K about what the cuts would do) and then outline his proposals.

The first time Bush starts to parrot a lie, hit him with it just like the argumentation that led to "I know that Osama attacked us."

6. Here's the sound bite
The president thinks that you Americans in the middle class should pay for a tax cut for the rich. I think it should be the other way around.

10. Bingo!
Also... That "Tax cut" is costing you money as the states raise your local taxes to make up for the Federal dollars lost.

8. Bush* has the tax issue advantage: most people suck at math.
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 04:14 PM by displacedtexan
It takes average math skills to understand that taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society.: roads, schools, first responders, courts, etc.

Besides, Bush* has already told the country that really rich people (with their accountants and lawyers) DON'T PAY TAXES ANYWAY.

ANNANDALE, Va. (AP) - President George Bush talked about taxes and entrepreneurship at a campaign stop today in northern Virginia.

The president held a town hall-style forum with about 600 supporters at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale.

He criticized Democrat John Kerry's proposal to eliminate tax cuts for the wealthy, saying that "the rich in America happen to be small business owners" who put people to work.

Bush added that "the really rich people figure out how to dodge taxes anyway."

11. Taxes unfortunately are a traditional weakness for Democrats
The whole irony of the issue, however, is that fiscal convervatives (which I suppose I consider myself to be) should support Democrats. Kerry should point out the massive giveaways to big corporations that dwarf anything the poor receive. Kerry should point out that he wants the tax burden to shift upward to the wealthy rather than being the burden on the middle class that it is today.

13. "The bush* tax-cut you got if any, has become a record deficit, which
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 05:02 PM by FoeOfBush
means it is actually a bush* tax-INCREASE on YOUR children and grandchildren."

EDIT: Or "I would like to give credit where credit is due. Under the bush* tax-cut policies, over 1 million persons got a 100% reduction! Of course that came in the form of a pink-slip, give him four more years and we ALL may be unemployed and finally free from our tax burden (except for our share fo the deficit)."

14. kerry will need to explain to freepers about debt and deficits
Edited on Mon Oct-04-04 05:00 PM by LSK
Apparently they have no clue there is a difference.

They also have no clue that roughly 30% of the federal budget goes to paying interest on the debt.

I schooled some freepers on these issues and they actually said I had some really strong points on this issue.
