WOW! Paula "Bush" Zahn actually sticking up for Kerry!
She is shutting down the GOP shill who keeps trying to advance the "Global test" meme! Repeatedly..."No, you're taking that out of context!" "He didn't say that."

Unfuckingbelievable!

1. Why is she doing a 180?
I wouldn't mind a mediawhore or 10 on our side, but why is she being this way suddenly?

17. The last few times I've seen Paula she actually was acting..
like a journalist... Maybe because of the competition with Norville? I don't know. But for the past couple of months she's been like a normal newsperson.

5. Wow!
I was just about to post about this and you beat me to it.

Amazing. Paula stepped in, rather heatedly interrupted this, and said, point blank, that this guy was taking the comment out of context, and that the Bush administration was essentially pulling the second part of the quote out while ignoring the first part. It was pretty amazing.

20. Just EXACTLY what Ted Sampley and the Swift Boat Liars do...
Cut off the entire first part of Kerry's actual sentance and just use the last part.

Poor rightwingnuts, that's all they CAN do; lie, cheat, steal.

8. She was better at confronting the repug pig
than "Joe" was. The repug pig may have
been spewing lies but he got a Zillion
words out to the public while "Joe" the
Dem just sat there and looked helpless.
Why can't our guys do better?

10. I think it's four things.
Rove made a huge mistake. After the debate, he said that the media and the polls said Gore was the winner of the first debate in 2000, but he (Rove) was able to spin that into a Bush win, and he would do it this time as well. He basically showed the media up, and they are not going to publicly be seen with their knickers down again. It was an incredibly stupid remark, one that reveals Rove's hubris, as well as just how shocked he was by Bush's stumbling performance -- he should have known better than that.

It's also probable that the e-mails sent to the media right after the debate let them know a lot of people are watching, and will nail them if they don't do their freakin' jobs.

They savaged Gore in 2000 for a few sighs; they have little choice but to be consistent with Bush this time. There are some things even whores won't do.

Finally, Bush's performance was so awful, and above all, so weak, that it's human nature to want to make sure he is fully punished for an outing that was, if you think about it, an insult to the entire country. He's running for the most powerful and prestigious office in the world, and he couldn't even be bothered to show up and turn in a half-assed effort.

What a great way to put it! The arrogance is just beyond belief.

What's interesting is, I'm coming to believe that Bush really IS living in a world of Rove spin. For awhile I wasn't sure.

12. Probably because it is beyond pathetic of them to try
and make a negative out of Kerry's global test comment.

Anyone with with half a brain that reads what he actually said would realize that the GOP is taking him out of context once again.

13. But they have had no shame before

With all their magic polls and Kerry has "no message" and "Bush is so strong and brave" etc. etc.

I think they made a promise to Rove that they would try their best but with the split screen, people were able to see the naked truth.

Ha Ha, the emperor has no clothes!!!!:bounce:

23. I don't watch TV, so I have
no idea if she's "flipped" or not. I don't trust some of the characterizations of a lot of the people here -- a decent interview is a slam, and everyone sees conspiracy theories in everything.

All that being said, I have noticed a craven tone towards Bush the few times I've seen a talking head show (usually on the web). If Zahn was one of the boot lickers and she's changing her tune, I outlined why I think that is elsewhere:

1) Rove screwed up by bragging about how he spun the Bush-Gore debate into a win for Bush, which embarrassed the media

2) The media savaged Gore in Debate 2000 for far less egregious behavior than Bush's in the last debate. They know that, and know a lot of people are watching.

3) Maybe all the e-mails people sent had an impact

4) Bush's performance was so bad, it was insulting to the country and the office he holds and aspires to. He needs to get slapped for that. Perhaps they are also sending warning shots that he'd better shape up in the next one, because he can't count on the media to bail his ass out, as they did in 2000, or carry him, as they've done since 9/11.

I don't think all of this is consciously thought out, by the way, but I do think they are all motivating factors.

To actually answer your question, I don't know. It depends on what happens going forward. It's certainly nice to hear the Republicans getting challenged hard, and it bodes well for the future, should Bush win. If he wins, I think he will be the weakest president in modern history, hated by the left, a question mark to his own party, mired in a war he foolishly started, and without an agenda for moving the country forward. All that and he'd be a lame duck. The media people have to sense that, that he's hurt not just for the purpose of the election, but damaged goods in general. And their coverage is likely to reflect it.
