Dean comments on Paul O'Neill

Governor Dean's Statement on Paul O'Neill's Statements Regarding the Iraq War

SPRINGFIELD -- "I've always said the President had failed to make the case to go to war with Iraq. Most of my Democratic opponents reached a different conclusion, and in the process, they failed to ask the difficult questions. Now, after the fact, we are learning new information about the true circumstances of the Bush administration's push for war, this time, by one of his former cabinet secretaries.

"The country deserves to know - and the President needs to answer - why the American people were presented with misleading or manufactured intelligence as to why going to war with Iraq was necessary. Secretary O'Neill's comments only underscore the continuing importance that these outstanding questions be answered."

2. Excellent! All the Dems need to jump on this. Write to them, and media!
Of course O'Neill stopped short of admitting that it was the oil...

11. SOME candidates will probably have even pithier comments...
but the news media won't report them.

still, am glad Dean's staffers spoke out.

7. Every candidate needs to get on this bandwagon
Edited on Sat Jan-10-04 07:54 PM by ShimokitaJer
Forget the inter-candidate sniping, folks. Now is the time to hit Bush with this if we want the election to be ours next year. There will be Republican Congressmen trying to disassociate themselves from this sinking ship, and we need to have a united Democratic front to condemn Bush, his administration, and the Republicans who enabled him. We can't afford Lieberman coming in and telling us that he understands why Bush acted as he did.

15. No such luck
See post #13. It's so much better to glorify Dean and beat up everybody else then hold Bush accountable. Look at Dean's first two sentences, can't pass up a chance to promote himself and berate the candidates. FIRST priority. Bush, an afterthought. It's statements EXACTLY like this one last summer that caused me to drop Dean permanently. Winning is more important to him than exposing Bush's war lies and always has been.

19. Interesting observation on Dean's inferiority/superiority complex
You'd think in his current position he'd only need focus on Bush, yet he can't help himself in attacking the other Dems even at this late date. His massive ego simply won't allow him to miss a chance to denigrate everyone in sight- a sure sign that his constant barrage of criticism must be an overcompensation for numerous underlying doubts.

16. He's just more full of it
And his first priority is still to pump himself up. He won't use this to go after Bush, he'll only use it to smear the other candidates even if Bush slides as a result. Again. It's why I don't like him. He's been doing this for six months.

23. He can't admit he allowed Bush use of force in res HE supported.
What a jerk.

Kerry's statement was ALL against Bush and his serious lies against the American people.

Dean's statement is all about him and he deceptively portrays himself as if he NEVER supported a resolution for use of force as per Biden-Lugar bill while attacking the OTHER candidates.

What a JERK.

24. what a ridiculous stretch
Using what O'Neill said about Bush against the Dems? This boy has no credibility whatsoever, especially after using the soldiers' deaths yesterday against the dems.

I wonder if there are some bad Dean poll numbers we don't know about, because he's sounding desperate...
