Edwards: "Bring it on."

Cheney: "Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr."

Tape or Tivo this one for the grandkids, folks.

1. I do NOT love this Edwards photo.
He looks like a cross between a televangelist and a musical comedy star.

It trivializes him.

But, actually, that's okay. Let people think he's lightweight. This is the lawyer who attracted courtroom crowds for the brilliance of his summations.

3. How about this one from today?

Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites) shakes supporters hands after arriving Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland. The only vice presidential debate between Edwards and Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites) will be held Tuesday at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. (AP Photo/Tony Dejak)

Also, he's wading in among the people. Not likely to find a Bush or Cheney shot like that.

7. The more I think about the choice of Edwards as VP
the more I think it was the only choice. Could you envision anyone else going head to head with Cheney, and win just on style? (I know, I know, this will be the way they'll spin it, but we'll see the ticket shine afterwards.)

Do you think the choice of Edwards was partially based on his ability to kick ass in a debate? Hmmm....

8. Edwards and Cheney
From a perspective as a TV Viewer and ignoring substance.... Edwards and Cheney are as different as night and day.

Jump into the "Way-Back" machine to the 2000 VP debate between Cheney and Lieberman. Both Cheney and Lieberman are 'low-key' talkers, somewhat monotoned and subdued. If I were to draw/paint a picture of the 2000 VP Debate, my pallet would be washed out grey tones.

I expect tonight's debate to be a bit more "colorful" in a split screen sort of way. Edwards is more animated, while Cheney continues to avoid looking at people/camera in the eye and drones on. Edwards has his smile and Cheney has his sneer (which is almost as well known as bush*'s smirk).

10. The nice young man vs. the mean old man...
It sounds superficial, and maybe it is, but this is how Bill Clinton was perceived over Bob Dole in the 1996 election.
