Washoe County Voter Registrar reports fraud, fingers nat'l GOP operatives
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 03:15 AM by NV1962
KRNV (Reno, NV) opened its 11:00pm news program tonight with a story that bodes ill for democracy in NV - if true.

Last Friday, news broke that the Washoe County Registrar of Voters, Dan Burk, is asking the F.B.I. to look into a recent flurry of complaints about out-of-state groups that have submitted fraudulent voter registration forms, and refused to register anyone but Republicans.

1. Voter fraud is becoming epidemic already --
A DU lawyer posted yesterday that he had been contacted to work the days around the election, when I think we will have thousands mobilized. I'm assuming we have some legal work going on now, but am wondering how many of these situations are being addressed by lawyers working with state Dem organizations.

Registrar wants investigation into fraudulent forms
Complaints filed: Groups allegedly refused to register non-Republicans.
DECISION 2004

By Anjeanette Damon

Washoe County Voter Registrar Dan Burk said Friday he will ask the FBI to investigate a recent spate of complaints that out-of-state groups submitted fraudulent voter registration forms and refused to register anyone but Republicans.

Burk said his office received more than 15 phone calls from people who complained they were badgered into registering as a Republican or denied a form if they wanted to register with another party - an apparent violation of state law.

His office also received 15 voter registration forms that contained fake names written by the same hand.

The problems have surfaced around a number of groups funded by the Republican National Committee to register voters in the final days before the election, Burk said. The groups, who bussed in organizers from out of state, hired temporary workers to register voters in Washoe County. After today, those wishing to vote can register at the county voter registrar's office until Oct. 12.

If they're bussed to Reno, then they're being bussed in elsewhere. I've sent the article to Kerry's campaign headquarters.

5. But even if they were forced to register as Repukes...they can vote Dem!
I know this is serious because many potential voters may not have registered at all...but those who did can still choose Kerry.
