Debate Fantasy: Hold B/C Accountable for 9/11 |
|
Its three years later; the shock wore off a long time ago. My ultimate debate fantasy is John Edwards, with his soft southern drawl, charming smile, and killer instincts ripping the B/C team apart for not having PREVENTED 9/11 from happening. We all know the evidence -- dismantling the existing systems without putting anything else in their place, refusing to convene meetings with the people who should have been doing something, ignoring the Aug 6th memo, cutting the anti-terrorism budget -- the list goes on!
I wish to God that someone would strip the flag off of these two naked emperors and remind the American people that they were "on vacation" instead of doing their jobs, and the "War on Terror" didn't have to become a National Tragedy.
Anyone else have opinions on this one? Will it always be "too controversial" to just say "you folks are the ultimate screw-ups?" Can even John Edwards pull that one off?

If Edwards did that, it would be easy fodder for the RW: "Edwards became so flustered that he started saying the President and Vice President were behind 9/11!"
There's enough dirt on Cheney for Edwards to use that he doesn't need to deal with 9/11.

2. Not "behind it" -- RESPONSIBLE for it. |

As in, it was their job to make sure stuff like that didn't happen. Like Clinton did. Don't you miss the peace and prosperity? Ah, nostalgia! :)

I KNOW what you said. :) I'm just stating what the RW spin would be. Any mention of 9/11 being preventable automatically sets the VRWC into high-gear, and I think there's no need for Edwards to go there.

4. You are probably right. |

Sigh. But couldn't you just PICTURE it? Wouldn't it be LOVELY? Guess some things are best left to fantasies! :)

5. Too much for people to accept |

It's too late by far for that to stick. He'll just point to 9/11 Commission report, which didn't assign blame. And since the terrorists were planning well before B/C tookk office, he'll say if anyone is to blame, it's Clinton. Anyway, it's a real stretch to say that they could have prevented it in time regardless of what policies thay had changed or what committee they had formed to study the problem. Better by far to hit them for opposing the 9/11 Commission itself, and for refusing to testify under oath.

6. When Michael Ruppert said it to the Commonwealth Club |

it didn't sound like fantasy at all. As a trial lawyer, Edwards probably is more capable of doing it than Ruppert.
If Edwards cites the facts and the law, all Dickie can do is pound the podium. Maybe with his shoe, heh heh.
