A note about the record Voter Registration numbers
from an MSNBC article:
<Snip>
They’re coming in, in buckets,” said Pamela Swafford, deputy director of Ohio’s Hamilton County board of elections. By Monday morning, the county that includes Cincinnati had 64,045 new voter registrations on hand, more than twice the 29,178 it received four years ago.
<snip>
Pennsylvania’s suburban Montgomery County, the state’s largest Republican-leaning county, saw a bigger surge than the past two elections, with three Democrats registering for every two Republicans, said Joseph R. Passarella, the county’s director of voter services. An analysis by the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal found that registration was up higher in that state’s traditionally Democratic counties, and not as high in counties that usually vote GOP.

2. Blackwell LIES directly to Bill Hemmer
On teevee this morning, Lying SOS (that's sack of shit, or Sec of State, take your pick), Blackwell of Ohio was asked point blank who was registering more, dems or repubs. He said they couldn't know until everything was counted. Hemmer repeated the question, "So, are you seeing more democrats or republicans registering?" Again, Blackwell squirmed and stumbled, seeming almost shocked that Hemmer followed up his bullshit non-answer. "Uh..we...there is...we can't tell yet...we need to wait and see..."

Still, Hemmer let him off the hook. But clearly, he know the numbers, but in the context of his interview -- trying to block voters from voting -- it would have been a colossal embarassment to simply say what he knew. Too bad Hemmer dropped the ball, but what did we expect?

8. We can't tell you
until we figure out how to massage the count and get rid of a few thousand registrations.

3. my comments on voter turnout and registrations
I live in Michigan..we have record registration here too...

I have to say this...when turnout is high DEMS usually win...and voter registration is coming in at record numbers and who thinks this record registration goes to an incumbent?? my guess and this is just a guess that people are registering to fire the incumbent...

I am not blind..its going to take a lot of different factors to have Kerry win but I am not going to be pessimistic about the registration/turnout..I think that is a benefit for US...

4. Don't forget HUMAN NATURE
Marketing 101: People take action to COMPLAIN. Only a very small number of people take the time out of their busy lives to write a positive letter about something, or reaffirm something that is already going their way. People who are angry or feel wronged are much, much more likely to "take action." It is basic human nature.

And it doesn't bode well for the GOP.

5. Democracy
by Leonard Cohen

It's coming through a hole in the air,
from those nights in Tiananmen Square.
It's coming from the feel
that this ain't exactly real,
or it's real, but it ain't exactly there.
From the wars against disorder,
from the sirens night and day,
from the fires of the homeless,
from the ashes of the gay:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
It's coming through a crack in the wall;
on a visionary flood of alcohol;
from the staggering account
of the Sermon on the Mount
which I don't pretend to understand at all.
It's coming from the silence
on the dock of the bay,
from the brave, the bold, the battered
heart of Chevrolet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the sorrow in the street,
the holy places where the races meet;
from the homicidal bitchin'
that goes down in every kitchen
to determine who will serve and who will eat.
From the wells of disappointment
where the women kneel to pray
for the grace of God in the desert here
and the desert far away:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Sail on, sail on
O mighty Ship of State!
To the Shores of Need
Past the Reefs of Greed
Through the Squalls of Hate
Sail on, sail on, sail on, sail on.

It's coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and of the worst.
It's here they got the range
and the machinery for change
and it's here they got the spiritual thirst.
It's here the family's broken
and it's here the lonely say
that the heart has got to open
in a fundamental way:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

It's coming from the women and the men.
O baby, we'll be making love again.
We'll be going down so deep
the river's going to weep,
and the mountain's going to shout Amen!
It's coming like the tidal flood
beneath the lunar sway,
imperial, mysterious,
in amorous array:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Sail on, sail on ...

I'm sentimental, if you know what I mean
I love the country but I can't stand the scene.
And I'm neither left or right
I'm just staying home tonight,
getting lost in that hopeless little screen.
But I'm stubborn as those garbage bags
that Time cannot decay,
I'm junk but I'm still holding up
this little wild bouquet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

6. Jan through August for Oregon
New Dem registrations were beating new Republican registrations by over 2 to 1.

Sorry, freeps. You've got one week left and American Coming Together, the DNC ground units, and the unions have been smearing your fat lazy asses all over the place.

Oregon is Kerry Country.

9. there will be long lines on election day. vote early,
if you live somewhere that provides it.

remember how the righties whined about polls staying open too late in st. louis last time out? i know here in nashville there were some polling places that changed at the last minute. people didn't find out until showing up to vote where they'd voted last time.

for people who vote before going to work or on their lunch hour, that creates a huge problem. long lines also make marginally committed voters turn away.

long lines also spell trouble for republicans. therefore, it will be in their best interests to suppress turnout.

don't let them do this to us.
