I helped an elderly Bush supporter this morning
I'm driving home and this car is parked at the side of the road with the end sticking out in the street, a very busy street and i see the driver, an elderly woman kind of wandering around. So i pull in front of her and get out, she comes over and starts mumbling something, she looks way out of it. So i ask her name and so forth and she gives me her purse and points. I get out her id and then her little phone book and call her son. I stay with her until her son shows up, Bush stickers on both cars. son shows up, i tell him whats going on, he thanks me for helping, sees my Kerry pin and looks at me, the face, i'm sure you have seen it and he then says..."I though Kerry was really good Thursday night, thank you so much for helping my Mom, i wont forget this" He said this is the last time Mom will be driving.

On the subject of elderly people driving, a lot of us baby boomers face similar situations with parents and other elderly relatives. Its a tough day when you have to take the keys away from someone who used to take care of you.

25. My Gandmother just gave up her car
she's 87 and really has driven much in the past 2 years but she decided she couldn't count on her reflexes anymore, it's made her pretty sad but i'm glad she stopped driving.

29. Its always good when they realize themselves
that it is no longer a good idea for them to be driving around. Its safe for them and it saves the relative the tough decision of taking the keys away. What is hard is when they still think they are good drivers and think the child or relative is the most evil, mean person for taking this right away from them. And then they go and tell everyone they know how mean and evil you are, after all they did for you, blah, blah, blah. Your family is lucky your grandmother made the choice herself and saved one of you from having to do it. It is much better when they come to that decision themselves, believe me!

This brought tears to my eyes . There are many, many of us Baby Boomers out there whose parents are in similar circumstances.

It was a wonderful thing you did :-)

way to go - and I hope you gave her son more to think on - he needs some health care for his mother at this point and I imagine he has some real questions over which team has the interests of folks like mom at heart. Thanks for being such a good emissary of Dem values.

15. Good for you
and not because you may have changed one repug's mind about liberals. Because you stayed with that poor lady and helped her so she didn't get robbed or killed.

I wonder how many repugs would stop their planet-sized SUVs to help an old lady in the same situation?

Political leanings aside, you helped another human being in distress. Can you imagine what might have happened if you saw the Bush sticker and just drove by? People like you make the world a better place.

and became lost several times.

People like you are who saved her life when it happened.

Thank you so much. From the bottom of my heart. You cannot know what this means to the families. The man spoke the truth, he WON'T forget it. Actions speak louder than words.

You demonstrated 'true' compassion, not the brand name Smirky uses.

You're a great liberal in all the best senses of the word!

28. Good for you!
It feels good to do something really nice for someone. You did a wonderful thing for this poor woman, her son and other drivers. I hope there is someone kind like you around when I get to that point. You are an angel and for someone with Bush* stickers on his car that was a huge thing for him to say. Perhaps you swayed him a little more? Time will tell. Pat on the back for you, you did what we should all do for each other but so many do not anymore. I like people like you. :loveya:

31. That was really good of you
I wonder how many people just passed her by because they "didn't want to get involved". When my gma was first coming down with Alzheimers, she used to wander around the neighborhood. Fortunately many of the neighbors and store workers knew who she was and they would call my gpa (who would sometimes call me to pick her up). Those times were so scary and sad. :(
