Kerry has done well to appropriate Bremer for his candor. He should also take up Colin Powell and present them as the realists. Kerry should do the macho thing by saying he has always supported (and he has) the Powell Doctrine of alliance building and OVERWHELMING FORCE, which would have avoided the 'catastrophic success' of the Rumsfeld Doctrine.

Kerry should present Cheney and Rumsfeld as men who have never seen combat up close (Rumsfeld was a training pilot) and had no idea how to run a major military operation.

The reason Bush listened to these Pentagon chickenhawks - and this is important - is because he listens to the people who talk toughest, not the seasoned realists.

Bush's love of tough talk has put America in a very dangerous position by severely botching a military operation with massive regional and even global significance.

Kerry doesn't have to talk tough. He knows how to handle a big stick.
