Well, it's almost October surprise time.
What's it gonna be? Osama captured? A LIHOP/MIHOP attack? A red alert and martial law? Some Log Cabin Republican claiming to have had a tryst with Kerry? A massive electrical grid blackout that forces the election to be "postponed?" A "secret intelligence report" that Teresa Kerry helped pay for North Korea to obtain nuclear weapons?

Whatever it is, you know that Rove/Cheney and company are ready to spring it. There's no way they will willingly give up power.

And when it comes, you just know that a majority of the public will buy it. So what do we do about it? What can we do about it? I for one don't have much confidence in the ability of the American people to resist tyranny, or to even recognize it until it's too late. Any suggestions?

1. My main money is on Osama
My other money is that Cheney is going to suffer health problems that will prevent him from serving as VP, and, boiiing!! here comes McCain. Just in time for the election with a little ad that says, "John Kerry wanted him--we have him."

And, Cyrano, you have been busy, busy posting, I see.

12. Hi texastoast
Registration time is over in Florida, so I have more posting time. The next chore is to get them all to the polls. What scares me most is what I can't control -- who gets to count the votes.

14. New VEEP
Especially after the post-debate polls tonight. If they show that Unca Dick has the electorate horrified, the BFEE will dump him for someone less ... uhhh ... undead.

2. I'm not sure it will work
All we have to do is scream, "October surprise!" and people will get suspicious.

Remember how all the groping charges came out against Arnold just before the election? I have no idea if their timing was politically motivated, but the electorate largely thought so and Arnold's poll numbers shot up about 10 points in the closing days.

I think the bigger the surprise, the more likely it will backfire.

3. I'm still scared.
I mean I will really, really be pissed if the public gets suckered in by some crap the Republicans have had in their back pockets all this time.

If Bush wins by a landslide, I'll probably have a stroke.

7. Wouldn't he get called a big flip-flopper?
I mean, it has come out over the past week how few Iraqi soldiers and police are really in place to take over from the US. I can't believe Bush would cut and run months before the big "election" he has been promoting as the solution to all Iraq's problems.

10. Nah.
He'll say things are going so great in Iraq and the Iraqi Army is now a lean mean fighting machine ready to kick some insurgent ass, so they won't need us after their elections in January.

Of course, later he'll say things have changed and those terrorist bastards are back, so we can't leave just yet.

Flip-flopper? Hell, he's already a massive flip-flopper and no one seems to care. What's one more flip-flop? Besides, I'm sure he thinks it's better than being a former president.

5. We know there's going to be...
some kind of October surprise - it's the Repugnican way. What scares me is a November or December surprise once * loses the election and is a desperate lame duck!!

8. YES.
I really believe these crazy bastards would be all too willing to do something insane if they lose. I wouldn't even count out the launching of a nuclear attack on... well, take your pick.

6. Big cut in oil price
I just can't get this out of my mind: Bush holds a big party (not a press conferene!) in the Rose Garden where he announces that he has "persuaded" the Saudis to immediately cut the price of their crude in half, thanks to his "close personal relationship" with them. Election in the bag.

Of course, what he doesn't mention is that this is just a temporary price cut. Lasting until Nov. 3, 2004...

9. Baloney...
So this would mean all the market speculators portfolios would be cut in half to push this "price cut" through? I can't see how the Saudis cutting oil prices is going to make world prices drop like a rock (especially if excess supply really isn't there)

16. That's my guess too.
They will have the October released economic info on steroids. They will revise it back to reality after the election. Oops, sorry for that little 500,000 job error!

Bush* will jump up and down saying how the economy is moving ahead. Everything's going great here, just like in Iraq.

How many will buy it? That's the big question.

13. Much more likely
Is a red alert and then an announcement from Ridge and Bush that they have "foiled" a major, 9/11-style terra plot.

The sheeple will buy it, hook, line and sinker.

Of course, for George W. Bush, "foiling" a terra plot is as easy as calling up Bandar Bush and the bin Ladens on their cell phones.

17. It's not Osama
Here's my on out a limb why:

Noticed Condi-lies on Meet the Press spewing. She was oh so careful to point out that just catching Osama isn't enough! That there is so much more to do (yeah duh) but obviously Osama's getting his pass.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

19. I know we'll all suffer an October surprise...
and I'm sure it will be about terrarists! Tom Ridge will declare a red alert, declare martial law and put the smirking chimp as the permanent king of the good 'ol US of A!! The smirk knows he cannot win this election on his own, too many people watching this time to allow him to steal it!! Nothing we can do about it. :(

I have emailed the Kerry campaign (tellus@johnkerry.com) several times to encourage them to start talking about these terra alerts coming up (we know they will be coming). I think the Kerry campaign staff should start going on talk shows, writing articles to newspapers, etc. to get people to start thinking about this. I mean, even true blue chimp supporters should question the chimp if we were to have another terra attack here on American soil, especially after the chimp gloats about taking care of us and keeping us safe from terra!! I think the more we keep getting this concept out in the media and more discussion arises, maybe we Dems might have good chance to maybe "soften the blow" and get people to question it?

(Sigh) I know Kerry will legally be our next President! But, what we have to ask ourselves, fellow Dems, will Karl Rove allow it if he can help it? :scared:

23. Hi, Cyrano, unfortunately no but....
I still think Kerry gets them. There is alot of evidence that Kerry used talking points during the first debate that some bloggers and supporters emailed the Kerry campaign. Elizabeth Edwards regularly checks the Kerry blog and has even posted on there several times, so I would highly encourage fellow Dems to keep emailing the campaign with your ideas, you might see them arise someday!!!

Thanks for the welcome! :hi:

20. Alien Invasion
I'll take that 1 dollar price is right bet...

"Aliens invade"

Bush goes on television putting us up to Red, declaring martial law, turning off the phones and satillites, because the 'alien's are using them to hurt us.

We huddle in our homes, oblivious to the fact that there are no aliens, and that we've been duped and Bush 'wins' the election after defeating the aliens, by flying a captured alien flying saucer, himself, up and delivering a NEWcular warhead to the alien mothership.

Hurrah!

would do a story that Kerry owns a complete library of French cookbooks, drinks only French roast coffee, eats French vanilla ice-cream, and will only French kiss Teresa.
