1. You know, Kerry needs to point out that he realizes |
|
that he must sound like a Monday morning quarterback, but the truth of the matter is that there was plenty of data available to the general public, let alone politicians, that should have caused us to think twice about Iraq, and that any reasonable statesman would have, but that Bush is beyond reasonable.

2. Kerry seems to be upping the ante. |
|
I think he's going to pick up the pace of his criticisms the closer we get to the election thus leaving the Bush team less time to respond and spin. I'm pretty sure that's what he's been up to all along. He's also had less money to work with so I think he was holding off on lashing out until now.

3. That's what I'm thinking, too. Leave them enough time, and they will... |
|
... smear anything and anyone until something sticks. Then we wind up with two months of discussing 30-year-old typesettings and such.
There is PLENTY to hang Bush with, but timing is also important. Starting this now leaves Bush having to (hopefully) spend most of the next month trying to defend the indefensible. Not only will they not have the luxury or time to divert and smear, but as they run out of time, they will get more and more desperate.
This desperation will show. Perhaps it already is showing: The "global test" thing was indeed, as Kerry put it, "pathetic". It was so easily disproven by simply seeing the debate (which 60 Million people did) that it even further damaged Bush's credibility.
At a time when Bush's honesty is becoming a major campaign issue, he can't afford to, well, lie. So he's in a real Catch 22, because the problem is, that's generally all he does. His default mode is to lie or mislead or otherwise misrepresent his opponent's record.

He knows that the last month is the most critical concerning swing voters. He knows American is the land of Short Attention Span Theater. And he also knows that whatever hits the airwaves in the last week before the election won't have time to be countered or rebuked.
And you know what the pathetic thing is? Usually an incumbant runs on his record. When the CHALLENGER is running on the incumbant's record. . . there is something seriously wrong with the people in power.
