Just saw swift boat liar John O'Neill
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 04:20 PM by Radical Activist
what a lying sack of shit that guy is! He spoke at the City Club of Chicago. He tried to get the crowd's sympathy by sounding like a nice guy and mentioning twice that he donated a kidney to his wife. That's nice, but he still lied constantly during his remarks.

Several swift boat veterans who actually served with Kerry on his boat were at the event to confront O'Neill. A veteran recently returned from Iraq and another from Afghanistan also asked him cutting questions during the Q&A session. He still avoided defending his lies, and the city club didn't allow that many comments from the pro-Kerry Veterans.

It became very obvious to me what motivates this man, and probably all others in the group. He's bitter about what Kerry did after he got back from Vietnam. He's bitter about what Kerry said in opposition to that war. Kerry was a major figure in the movement against the war and they have been holding a grudge all this time. That's something that isn't so obvious to younger people in my generation. I never appreciated how angry some veterans got at those who opposed the war. It is personal and emotional. There is still a lot of pain for many people who served in Vietnam, and that is coming out in the whole group of swift boat liars.
I can understand why they're doing this now, but it doesn't make it OK.

1. Donated his liver? You mean some of it?
You need a liver to survive.

2. Well, first of all a liver regenerates
you only need to transplant part of it and the rest will grow and yours will grow back.

O'Neill is a Nixon supporter - bitter til the very end. And, what a piece of shit he still is.

3. Sad bitter man
Someone needs to keep an eye on him when Kerry wins.

6. He isn't even bitter
Nixon searched him out for this career. He was vetted by Nixon and other Watergate apparatchiks to rebut Kerry since Kerry was so effective with VVAW.

7. You can tell
O'Neill is very good. He doesn't come off as bitter, mean or angry. That is why Nixon, and now Bush, selected him for this job. He can lie and spew hate with a smile, and seem like a nice guy while he's doing it. It makes his lies that much more effective. He acts like a nice guy just trying to do the right thing, but he is an evil man.

10. Yes, I remember him well back in the day!
Even Nixon would be appalled at this current group and I never thought I would live to make such a statement.

21. I remember watching him on Dick Cavett and thinking he
was the most irritating little hogwash spouting pipsqueek! Kerry mopped the floor with him. No doubt, he's still seething about his debate loss. I didn't know anything about the Nixon connection back then and I still hated his slimey guts. Nothing has changed.

8. He LIES to make what Kerry said in 71 into something that pisses him off.
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 04:28 PM by blm
HORSESHIT. Politicians TWISTED Kerry's words into an attack on all the veterans to take the heat off their own criminal decisions. O'Neill knows how to read. He just WON'T because then he'd have to admit he's been lying and used as a tool for all these years.

9. They are doing this primarily because of one man's
wounded pride. There was a great article in the NYT a few days ago that cleared up the mystery of the Shitboat Liars. (I shall try to find the link and edit)

Admiral "Latch" Hoffman who was in command of the swiftboats read Douglas Brinkley's book "Tour of Duty" and was offended by remarks made about him by sailors under his command. Kerry had kept a journal and quoted a lot of these guys. Strangely enough, few if any of the unflattering swipes at Hoffman were made by Kerry, but this is not about being rational. Hoffman who was known as "Mad Dog" among other nicknames apparently still strikes fear into these guys and he was the initiator of the attacks on John Kerry. If he had been so miffed over Kerry's anti-war activism, he probably would not have gone to Kerry's wedding to Teresa. Many of the other slimers supported Kerry in his senate campaigns. It is all about the book and the slights made about Hoffman.

John O'Neill was waiting in the wings and so ready to pick up his cudgel again, but it took the old Admiral to get the ball rolling.

11. O'Neill mentioned Admiral Hoffman
As the one who started calling people to get the group started. I didn't know that about Hoffman. I would still guess that O'Neill and many other vets in the swift boat group are motivated by lingering anger over Kerry's opposition to the war. O'Neill kept going back to that over and over again.

20. I think they have now convinced themselves that
it's all about the anti-war stuff, but I think it's more about their crazy ass fear of "Latch" Hoffman's disapproval. Did it go something like this:

Hoffman: "I read what you said about me and I'm gonna believe you were misquoted if you go along with this smear Kerry campaign I'm starting." Something like that.

The Washington Post article implies that Hoffman was one feared man. I know a lot of people who are still scared to death of their old infirm fathers, so it's not all that surprising.

12. Here is an interesting article from this weekend about "Latch" Hoffman
who started the Swift Boat Liars up and why (if you missed it).

It is 5 pages and the middle and end has the most interesting stuff.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A2975-2004Oct2.html

Someone also posted a really good WP article on Kerry from July but I haven't found it yet.

15. Viet Nam Vets are mad that the government lied to them about the political
'war' and refused to take the necessary actions to win or end it. They were not treated as heros when they returned and instead of blaming LBJ for his dishonesty they blame KERRY. Check out the similarity of LBJ's speeches to Bush's. Then we had to fight on or the domino effect would sweep the Mideast and the world would go communist. Now we have to fight on for ever or the terrorists will have another breeding ground from which to strike.
SAME SHIT DIFFERENT ASS.

16. one of these geezers actually admitted that Kerry's HAIR bugged him!
What kind of honorable soldier (in 1972) wears long hair and a fatigue jacket! He could tell he was insubordinate just from that!

I knew the hippie hair wars were serious and terrible but for god's sake HE GOT A HAIRCUT!!! And what about the csubstance of his criticism????

Jeez, it's been 30 years and those old shorthaired military types haven't made a single change in their world view, apparently...

18. He makes my skin craw.
I'm a V.N vet. For him to criticize what John Kerry did after he returned with shrapnel in his leg from his incredible service, he should be spit on by every American in a prime time HBO special.

Kerry had the balls to go into Congress and tell them for the first time how wrong it was to continue that war. So that bastard and all the other Americans who hadn't yet died over there, could come home!

I wouldn't want to be in the same state as that Nixon loving, exposure seeking, lying, bloated faced bastard.

19. The vets who served with Kerry
obviously feel the same way about O'Neill that you do.
How sick for someone to degrade or question the service of someone who volunteered to go to vietnam and was honored serveral times for that service. O'Neill dishonors all veterans.
