Is this sad? "Election Booths in Schools Draw Concern"
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 04:35 PM by plastic_turkeys
HUDSON, Mass. - Dozens of parents have signed a petition asking town officials to remove election booths from schools out of concern for terrorism.

Sally Morgan cited the potential for terrorists to try to disrupt the Nov. 2 presidential election, as well as the school hostage crisis in Russia earlier this month in a petition sent to the town's Board of Selectmen.

The petition, signed by 125 parents, asks town officials to move polling places to more secure locations such as the town library, fire stations and churches.

Selectman Joseph J. Durant argued that pulling the election booths would rob students of an opportunity to see how democracy works. He also denied a threat to children exists.

4. Yeah. Moving a voting booth to Thomas Road Baptist Church in
Lynchburg (Jerry F's hangout) sounds really safe from vote tampering.

7. We don't have school on election days
Solves the problem. We had a kid in our district a couple of years ago (a current student of mine actually) kidnapped by a parent who didn't have custody during an election. After that, they started having teacher workdays on election days. Just too big a risk with that many people in the building.

9. I'd keep the kids home from school
before I moved the polls. Let them tag along for the education, I say.

10. Many school districts in this area have a day off on election day
because of this very situation.

11. Now that's the best solution right there...
...Make election day a holiday for everybody.

Look at the turnout in the last 2 Lousiana runoffs. Why so good down there? Well yeah, the concept of the runoff election itself might inspire people to participate. But it's just as likely that holding the election on Saturday, with less people working, encourages voter participation.

But then, that's not what this Fraudministration wants, is it? Because people who aren't able to get time off to vote on a Tuesday are more than likely NOT Republican voters.
