Our Secret Weapon: The Landline-less |
|
Edited on Tue Oct-05-04 06:25 PM by jefferson_dem
I routinely have access to about 350 college-aged "kids" and, just out of curiosity, i took an informal poll of how many of them do not have landlines (i.e. they use cell phones only) and, therefore, are not subject to polling. I kid you not: about 1/3 of them fall into this category.
Beyond this overall challenge for pollsters, i believe this will be an extreme advantage for Kerry on election day. When thinking about what types of people would go with a cell phone only, they are mobile (obviously), younger, and more urban.
And, the key controlling factor is that they are WITHOUT children. Surely, no family would do away with their land line. And surveys indicate that singles and couples without children are much more likely to be Democrat and support Kerry.
What do you guys think?

2. Also, include those of us with Caller I.D. who never, ever |

answer our land lines if we don't know the caller.
I would love to know the demographics on both cell phones and caller i.d.

3. I agree, I think it is worth at least .5% to 1% in polls |

No offense to anyone but this demographic has very little attention span and is easily persuaded. Therefore, a few days before the election remind them that under Bush II regime they will likely get drafted.

when you read the fine print about the methodology of polling. Or at least I read it in an article which tackled this issue. When I read that I realized that this is the reason for the Republican slant in the polls. I, too, am one of the landline-less. Single, without children (although not young).

I'm 49 and single, with no children. Haven't had a landline for over seven years.

I am 35, married, and have a child AND our household relies completely on cell phones (no land line). And I know four other families like ours off the top of my head.
Singles and students may comprise a big chunk of those who have opted for the cell phone only lifestyle, but they are by no means alone. And EVERYONE I know who has cut the land line (usually for financial reasons) is voting Kerry-Edwards - we are sick and tired of the toll this administration's economic malpractice (and malfeasance) is taking on those of us not in the upper income brackets.
